What are some more modern games like this? I like older FPS games (lot of guns, move quickly through large levels) like DOOM or Duke Nukem but they give me a headache after a little while because of the older graphics.
I already know about Serious Sam.
That's a hell of a deal. Very much worth it.

It's fun. One of the attacks is spinning around and decapitating everything about your height. It is very satisfying

Eh, I don't know about that one. I keep trying to like it, but the horrible optimization, bad sound design (can barely tell where enemy gunshots are coming from half the time), bland visuals, frustrating platforming sections, and broken save system make me quit every time.

Hard Reset perhaps?
Related to the sale, new Shadow Warrior 2 gameplay coming soon.

Can't wait for 2, 4 player coop with bigger maps and better movement/vertical gameplay.
The most disappointing thing about Shadow Warrior 2 (from what we've seen so far) is that I'm still not seeing many defensive options. I was hoping we'd get some kind of advanced dash or parry move. There aren't a lot of ways to outright avoid damage in Shadow Warrior, you can only minimize it or find ways to get health back quickly.
This is an absolute steal. The game is also really good, gets a wee bit repetitive at times but its buckets of bloody fun.
Buy it.

If Shadow Warrior had the combat of Dark Messiah, I'd still be playing it
Could never get this game to run for me, would crash my display drivers. Might have to try it again sometime

The Darkness II.

You can and should dash in Shadow Warrior to stay alive on harder difficulties, once you get into it, it becomes fairly easy to survive with just dashing and using the sword, and it's charged attacks to regain health when hit.

I know how to make it through the game, I'm just saying it's more satisfying to skillfully avoid damage rather than soak it up while getting regaining health. Outright avoiding damage in Shadow Warrior is pretty much impossible, since most enemy attacks have pretty large hitboxes, and from what I can tell, there's no invincibility on the dash move.
Try the demo first, I didn't like it. Felt like a classic game but with modern graphics, but the retro elements feel more dated than charming imo. Wasn't a fan and didn't even play through the whole thing
I found it really dull, weapons other than the sword are both subpar and have little ammo, you spend the entire game using the same couple of moves over and over so you pretty much end up with a first person fighting game with very simple combat. Doesn't help that some enemies take forever to kill.
There's also no natural progression to the levels, you just walk into an arena, kill a bunch of dudes, press a button to open the door forward and walk half a minute toward the next arena
And I understand that the voice acting is supposed to be corny but it often came out as irritating, though some of the dialogue was funny
I wouldn't say it's a bad game but to me it failed to realize that not everything about retro gaming was a good idea
It's fun but way too long for a game this simplistic in design.
