My cat pretty much did that to me also, and it wasn't asking for food either.

My cat did this too and also sometimes answers when you talk to her. She's at my parents, I miss her :(
Every time I leave the house, I come back and my cat runs over to me and starts violently headbutting me, and won't stop meowing until I lift her up and wrap her around my neck like a scarf (Idk for some reason she loves doing that). And then purr loudly for hours while simultaneously headbutting my head.
My cat likes to sit in my chair and jump at me when I walk into my room and bats at me feet while making adorable mewing sounds, shes cute.

My cat does this whenever I leave for longer than a day or two. (During the time I'm gone she stays on my bed most of the time, even if someone else is home.) No, she doesn't do this because shes hungry...
