[release]A remote-controlled aircraft owned by an animal rights group was reportedly shot down near Broxton Bridge Plantation Sunday near Ehrhardt, S.C. Steve Hindi, president of SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness), said his group was preparing to launch its Mikrokopter drone to video what he called a live pigeon shoot on Sunday when law enforcement officers and an attorney claiming to represent the privately-owned plantation near Ehrhardt tried to stop the aircraft from flying. "It didn't work; what SHARK was doing was perfectly legal," Hindi said in a news release. "Once they knew nothing was going to stop us, the shooting stopped and the cars lined up to leave." He said the animal rights group decided to send the drone up anyway. "Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," Hindi said in the release. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter." He claimed the shooters were "in tree cover" and "fled the scene on small motorized vehicles." "It is important to note how dangerous this was, as they were shooting toward and into a well-travelled highway," Hindi stated in the release. He said someone from SHARK called the Colleton County Sheriff's Department, which took a report of the incident. The Colleton County Sheriff's Department filed a malicious damage to property incident report. According to the report, Hindi told the responding deputy the group's remote-controlled aircraft "was hovering over U.S. 601 when he heard a shot come from the wood line. The shot sounded to him that it was of small caliber." The incident report went on to state that "once shot, the helicopter lost lift and crash landed on the roadway of U.S. 601." The deputy noted in the report that he was unable to speak to anyone at Broxton Bridge Plantation following the incident. Hindi estimated damage to the drone at around $200 to $300. Hindi said he will seek charges against those who shot down the drone. "This was SHARK's first encounter with the Broxton Bridge Plantation, but it will certainly not be the last," Hindi said in the release. "We are already making plans for a considerably upscaled action in 2013." Maybe the drone looked like a pigeon?
Let's hope they don't find the people who shot it down.
With that title I thought the drone was shot down by an indigenous tribe or something.
so some dudes see a little flying drone, and their first thought is to shoot it down?
I sure hope PeTA doesn't gets the same idea, or we will soon have cyborg undercover cats and dogs that they found on the streets spying on us for every little time we fart on top of our pets.
Pigeon shooting is no more worthy of disgust than hunting in general. Whoever shot is a winner.
It's all target practice to me. :v:
"As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter."
THIS, This fucking bolded part is why I fucking HATE animal rights groups, anti-gun lobbies, and just hippies in general, they don't understand that there's a LIMIT to the number of birds/game that can be killed in a season, and that it's done to PRESERVE populations, to prevent overpopulation, and to control animal numbers so they don't overproduce and start encroaching on cities. The jackass fucks would have one of the planet's oldest and proudest traditions and sports banned because they're ignorant fucking twats. I'm glad their pile of shit got shot down, I hope if they try this again it gets show down again, and again, until they fuck off. Christ, I hate animal "rights" groups, all a bunch of hypocritical idiots.
I'm glad their pile of shit got shot down
Hey now, the drone never asked to be used in this way :(
"Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," Hindi said in the release. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter."
I cracked up after reading this.
With that title I thought the drone was shot down by an indigenous tribe or something.
I was to. Kinda disappointed. I was hoping to hear about how they took it out with arrows and spears.

Don't they? Also. Isn't it illegal to film people on private property?
video in link
What more can you expect from those dirty pigeon killers

These guys wanna pretend to be tough, but this shows who they really are >Shits himself when truck appears
But respect and kindness are the names of my guns :(
Oh for fuck's sake, do you expect any sort of logic by an animal rights group named SHARK? "We need a catchy name for our animal-saving group" "How about we call ourselves after the killiest fucking thing to ever roam the seas?" "BRILLIANT!"
"It is important to note how dangerous this was, as they were shooting toward and into a well-travelled highway," Hindi stated in the release. He said someone from SHARK called the Colleton County Sheriff's Department, which took a report of the incident.
I'm pretty sure these pigeon shoots are usually done with shotguns loaded with birdshot. I doubt the shooters had the range to endanger anyone on the highway.
The name of the drone was "Ol' Suicide"? :v:
OH GOD THE GOVERNMENT WAS KILLING PIGEONS? OH NO SAVE THE PIGEONS
I watched some of their other videos and they look like jerks, I don't agree with live pigeon shooting but these guys purposely try to anger people then insult the police when they do not arrest people who do not break the law. I know the law was broken in this case, but in most it is not.
At first I thought the title involved a Animal Rights activist person being a mindless drone and that person being shot. What? He is a mindless drone!
Out here in the sticks of missouri, deer are common and a pest. Pigeons are not a problem here, but raccoons and deer are bad. More people have been killed in car accidents involving deer than i can count. Just last year my dad hit a deer with our van and it fucked up the entire driver side of it, costing us several thousand in damages, because of the deer population. Those pigeon hunters were doing a service because pigeons shit EVERYWHERE. Same for deer hunters(including myself, i have yet to get one though, damn bastards are sneaky).
What SHARK is doing is good. These "hunters" only shoot pigeons launched out of boxes, skeet shooting with live targets so to speak. It's incredibly stupid, I don't see any wrong in bringing up attention of it when its banned everywhere else.
Out here in the sticks of missouri, deer are common and a pest. Sadly these people give a bad name to legitimate hunters.

Sadly these people give a bad name to legitimate hunters.
Clay pigeon shooting is a sport as well, this is basically replacing the clay with a pigeon raised to be killed, this is no worse than animal farming, they just wanted to have a controlled hunt with the pigeons they've raised. The sport in this arises from the fleeing pigeon, aiming to hit it, it's like hitting the clay on a trap range, as a matter of fact, those clays are to train to shoot pigeons. If the pigeons were raised to be killed for food, if not for hunting them, they would have been killed in a more "traditional" farming style, the hunters wanted to have some fun practising their sport, and this gives the pigeons a chance to be free, as depending on the aim and volume of both the hunters and pigeons, some could make it out. Controlled hunts like this aren't uncommon, as far as I know, and are usually for practise, giving people a controlled environment to hunt in with livestock raised for this purpose to give people training at tracking and aiming at moving animals. Usually farms like this will charge the hunters for the use of their land and for the animal, or animals, they bring out.
all a bunch of hypocritical idiots
This is the case for just about any "rights" group and all political groups

Even if the shot misses other hunters would kill it. I have no problem with traditional hunting, I have hunted myself. But raising an animal to be shot for no other reason in my opinion is wrong. If they were using the pigeons for another reason as well it would not be so bad; but they just kill them and leave them. It just seems like a waste.
Stupid animal rights hippies make me mad. And it's a fucking pigeon who cares, it's a stupid flying reptile practically. [editline]19th February 2012[/editline] This vid makes me lol but rage at the same time. These idiots practically stalk/chase this hunter for no reason other than hes a hunter. OH MAN WRITE HIS LICENSE PLATE DOWN yeah for all those crimes that he ... didn't commit? He pulls out a gun on them (not the best choice of action) but his friend calms him down.
