I just got back from seeing it, and I must say; I found it to be a total disappointment. The story follows greatly and get's you all into it and makes you some super-skeptic of every other character. And you get all hyped up, just for what came to me as a total kick in the nuts. I believe that the best way to describe this was anti-climactic, in just about every essence imaginable. What's your take?
I really enjoyed it, I just don't think you understand how awesome it was :smug:
It was decent. Predictable story but it was made very well, so I didn't really mind.
Seems okay, may watch it one day.
pretty predictable but alright
It was good. I went and saw it last night. But I was a little disappointed that it was advertised as more of a ghost/thriller movie.
Bred, how else would they have advertised it without giving everything away? I thought it was a pleasant surprise. I would totally recommend going to go see it.
How was this movie predictable I wasn't expecting the final twist at all
It was pretty obvious since 'chuck' discussed it with him on the cliffs, they flat out said the plot then and there.
i want to see it just because it's Scorsese
Just got back from seeing it. Great movie. The ending was weird but I got it after thinking about it for 5 mins after the movie. But really it was a huge mind fuck.
just got back from seeing it im confused but i liked it
It was fucking awesome. I loved it. Never expected the ending. I thought it would be something else. [editline]10:11PM[/editline]
How was this movie predictable I wasn't expecting the final twist at all
Not sure, a lot of people I talked to who watched the movie didn't even predict that would happen at the end. Even my one friend who watches movies all the time and usually is the asshole who is like "OH YEAH WATCH HE'S GOING TO MURDER EVERYONE" and ruins the whole plot :(
I was so close to actually being in this movie. http://www.patriotledger.com/archive/x1589919608 Two years ago, the film company decided to use an old mill in my city as a place to film parts of the movie (the WWII flashback scenes, I believe). The film company came and turned a street near the mill into a miniature Hollywood, and held a casting call for extras and important roles for the scenes they were shooting. I went to the open casting, but didn't get a part. :saddowns: One of my history teachers got a part as an extra though, and even got to meet DiCaprio and the cast. I think a one-second shot of him actually made it into the final film. Haven't seen the movie yet, but I probably will since it's Martin Scorsese.
I don't get the people who say it wasn't predictable, unless you're completely thick, the twist was damn near revealed within the first 15 mins of the film. Hell, one line not five minutes into the film almost gave it away. [sp]Also, in the first dream sequence even, his wife was bleeding from the stomach, not two minutes earlier did he say she got killed by the smoke. When he said that, he clearly was lying to himself about it, reassuring himself that happened.[/sp] I'm the kind of guy who usually misses stuff like this, but come on guys, even I figured it out. Good movie though.
I didn`t really like this movie. Seems more like Stutter Island [editline]03:53AM[/editline] Definitely not one of scorsese`s best.
I'm going to go see it next weekend. I have a man crush on DiCaprio and I read the book, so I think I'll enjoy myself.
Awesome movie, it's predictable but it's intended, the end plays with your predictions.
I'm interested to see how the third act plays out, the translation from book to film that is.
I saw it the other day, I really liked it. It reminded me a lot of The Shining. It had beautiful cinematography, and the music was fantastic. Scorsese really is an amazing director. Yeah the plot was predictable as soon as it was overshadowed via proxy by the woman he was looking for but it was still a really nice and eerie ride.
It was a bit of a anti-climatic and generic ending.. but how ever the whole [sp]"Him being an actual patient on the island"[/sp] had a bit of twist because instead of him just [sp]Imagining all of it. it was a role play[/sp] Fuck I got ninja'd

"This place makes me think. Is it better to die as a man, or live like a monster?" or something to that effect and it's all like shiit he just wants to die[/sp]
[sp]some of it was imagined though as a result of the roleplay and I liked the ending. he doesn't actually regress, but pretends to, because he'd rather die (become lobotomized?) than live like that. "This place makes me think. I had guessed right the first few times but never exactly felt sure of myself. Also I fully admit, in the second nightmare when he see's his wife with the dead kids around her feet I nearly shit myself, jesus christ. [sp]Oh so that's what happened. I wasn't sure if he was acting or not and that really bothered me because I didn't want him to regress.[/sp]
I think some people misinterpret what the 'twist' is. It is not that [sp]he is a patient[/sp]. Duh, after the Sixth Sense, any time you see someone investigating something, the FIRST thing you guess is [sp]he is what he's investigating(ghost, mental patient, whatever)[/sp]. Not only because of that, but because the Dr tells him almost right from the start what's happening(the "she made up a scenario..." part). The twist is that [sp]the procedure, a revolutionary new way to cure mental illness worked! Those doctors could use that treatment, with Dicraprio's character as proof of how it works...except wait. The patient deliberately, for his own personal reasons, pretends it didn't work! So he gets a lobotomy and lives out his life in happy ignorance of his insanity, but dooms generations of otherwise curable mental patients to living their lives in misery and despair![/sp]. It's pretty awesome when you think about it. And what can Chuck do about it? Not a damn thing, because how could he prove it? No one would believe him.
I hate the trailer spoils stuff
I think at the end he got the [sp]Lobotomy because he didn't want to live with the mental anguish of killing his wife so he simply pretended to have a relapse. That's why he said "Is it better to die a good man or live as a monster[/sp]
It was decent, too predictable.
It was alright. Saw the ending coming from a mile away though.
I will probably go check it out.
