U.S., Israel sign $38 billion military aid package
Nearly 10 months of drawn-out aid negotiations underscored continuing friction between President Barack Obama and Netanyahu over last year's U.S.-led nuclear deal with Israel's arch-foe Iran, an accord the Israeli leader opposed. The United States and Israel have also been at odds over the Palestinians.
But the right-wing Netanyahu decided it would be best to forge a new arrangement with Obama, who leaves office in January, rather than hoping for better terms from the next U.S. administration, according to officials on both sides.

I wonder if Obama is gonna use him as a Point guard.
Fuck off.
We shouldn't be paying for this shit.

Between Hillary or Trump I honestly wonder who would be more supportive of Israel.
Between Hillary or Trump I honestly wonder who would be more supportive of Israel.
I don't know whether Trump would give Israel the finger or just crumple under the dominant status quo and get in line to succ just like everyone else for the last few decades. And I'm not sure which I'd actually prefer.
Everything about this election is fucked.

He was favoring a hands off policy in regards to Israel then threw himself at AIPAC's feet during their yearly conference. Between Clinton and Trump I would definitely pick Trump for the person who wouldn't be giving Israel tens of billions of dollars.
Why does Israel need $38 billion?
They could very easily best any military that borders them and manufacture their own technology and weapons.

easily trump. He's either been hands off or pro settlement
kind of interesting since one would think hillary or trump would have a better relation with BB
easily trump. He's either been hands off or pro settlement
Being pro-settlement isn't something the President can really do anything about though, it's meaningless rhetoric. As for who would be practically more supportive of Israel, the one candidate I can see not sending money to countries in the Middle East is Trump, especially when under his fiscal plan we would have a hell of a lot less money to give away. Between his tax plan and the damage his economic policy could wreak on the American system, I just don't see him being as supportive as Clinton, who might pander to the left on things like settlements and Gaza but still follow through on practical support like Obama does.
easily trump. He's either been hands off or pro settlement
He's also pro-war with Iran.
Tell me, does a war with the Iranians help or hurt Israel? Does another war in the region lend to geopolitical stability? Does it make Israel more or less safe?
Trump is all about short-term gains over long-term growth or stability, and damn the consequences.
Isn't Israel essentially self-sufficient at this point? Why do we still give them so much economic aid?
Isn't Israel essentially self-sufficient at this point? Why do we still give them so much economic aid?
Probably because there are enough voters like Svinnik to make Israel an embedded special interest.
I mean for fucks sake, the CDC is struggling to scrape together funds to continue fighting Zika because Republicans have to waive their dicks over contraceptives. They wanted a paltry 1.9 Billion, which congress reduced to 1.1 and still hasn't even passed, and now we're just going to throw nearly 40 billion to Israel
CDC, NASA, any other government programs that are underfunded to all hell that could use this money.
I've had people explain it to me a dozen times and I still don't understand why we back Israel at all. Sick of hearing about us paying for their bullshit with Palestine.
Lobbying. It's pretty fucking dumb. We shouldn't be giving out 38bn. And I guarantee you that if someone was to question this like Hagel did with the Pro-Israeli in 2009 they would be shunned immediately like he was. I fucking hate lobbying.

Uh, who else in the region exactly would be useful to us anyways? At least Isreal is a modern western nation with freedom for all people.
I hope it's a $38 Billion solid diamond chest with a note inside that says "stop pissing people off."

It's the only modern, western, democracy in the Middle East that has any real respect for human rights. That alone is worth working with.

Doesn't the IDF have some real shady tactics in dealing with the palestinians like strapping their kids to their light armored vehicles and interrogating them through means of torture?
