A man and a woman, whom had been searched for since last Tuesday, were found, dead, in the afternoon. They had been driving among another woman, to see the volcanic activity near Eyjafjallajökull. The jeep went out of gas, and they had apparently decided to leave the jeep and head for cover.
At 1 in the night, the people apparently called for police help after the car got stuck in bad snow. At 6:30 in the morning, they called again and claimed they didn't need help, the car was free and they had found a trail. Note that this is in the highlands of Iceland, which has some of the most unpredictable weather in the world.
The next day, the 3 people's families reported them missing to police. Rescue teams from the capitol and other towns near were sent, almost 270 people looking for the missing people. Helicopters, search dogs, even hikers took part in finding the missing 3.
The first woman was found in the afternoon the day after an extensive search, alive and well compared to the situation. The other woman and man however, were found dead. The woman was found just near the empty car, but the man was found more than 4 kilometers away from it.
The woman who died was 43 years old. The man was 55.
This sucks so bad. But, they made the biggest mistake of going on a trip. If you run out of gas or the car gets stuck don't leave the car. The car is the first to be found.
Remember FP'ers. Never leave the car.
A murder at Fjallabak?! This is almost as bad as the eruption at Eyjafjallajökull!!
ITT: Iceland has ridiculous names for places.
yeah, the car is big and shiny it will help you get noticed easier and you will be warmer in the car than you will do outside. are some people stupid or what?
Come on guys, Fjallabak is fucking simple to pronounce. We can't make fun of this one.
My cousin John Aljkklmännheöll lives there.
Say that ten times fast.

It turns into "holla back" after a while
This is exactly why I keep extra coats, blankets, candles, matches and things to read in my trunk at all times. I've been in this situation, and after 3 and half hours of no help I walked like roughly 3km through thighdeep snow, it was easily one of the worst things I've ever been through.

Not for me, I can't figure out the Fj part. How does fj sound? Fiji, fdzj, fgija?
You're swedish.
Ok.
Try to pronounce Fajullah.
The first pronounciaton of that word pretty much makes you say FJ.

Fyelleback. If my logic is correct, it literally means Mountain stream.(I'm Norwegian, and fjell bekk is mountain stream).
Icelandic is awesome!
Scandinavia People have the most Vintage names. Since the Viking times
Eyjafjallajökull
Looks like they didn't have fjallaback plan. :smug:
