And he extended his appeal beyond the Caucus by saying most voters agreed with him. Mr Rudd stepped up the aggression of his campaign to be returned as Prime Minister by marking out sharp policy differences with Ms Gillard and attacking some of her decisions. He revealed he had opposed scrapping of the "green car" scheme of subsidies for car makers, a policy favoured by one of his backers Senator Kim Carr. He also said he was "deeply disappointed" over the abolition of one of his schemes to fund studies by maths and science students, and changes to health policy. Mr Rudd was speaking - just half an hour before a scheduled press conference by Ms Gillard in Adelaide - in Washington where last night he dramatically resigned as Foreign Minister with a barrage at "the faceless men" campaigning against him and a lack of loyalty from the Prime Minister. His surprise decision came after news.com.au revealed that Prime Minister Gillard was preparing to sack him on his scheduled return Sunday, before the resumption of Parliament. He is now in the air returning home tomorrow and has said he will consult family and allies before deciding whether to contest the leadership ballot Ms Gillard wants held on Monday. He is expected to stand in the ballot and a close support, Alan Griffin, today said he expected Mr Rudd to stay in Parliament. "I'm sure Kevin will stay in the Parliament. There's absolutely no doubt about that," said Mr Griffin. Mr Rudd told reporters today he'd held "many conversations' with Caucus and ministerial colleagues and received encouraging support. "Their overall argument to me was that they regard me as the best prospect to lead the Australian Labor Party successfully to the next elections, to save the Australian Labor Party at those elections, and to save the country from the ravages of an Abbott government," he said. Mr Rudd said he was shocked by the tone and content of comments by cabinet colleagues including Treasurer Swan who accused him of undermining Labor's 2010 election campaign. Those allegations of sabotage will be fired back at Mr Rudd as he continues to argue he is the best leader for an election bid. Communications Minister Stephen Conroy was among ministers who reminded the party of allegations that rather than help Labor, Mr Rudd last election tried to sabotage the last election campaign by endorsing leaks against Julia Gillard. Mr Rudd has denied the charges, but senior ministers are convinced he was behind the damaging leaks in the first two weeks of the campaign and are opening up in public with views they have long held in private. "Everybody remembers the sabotage that went on in the first two weeks of the last election campaign," said Senator Conroy. "For somebody to be engaged in destabilising and giving Tony Abbott a chance to win the last election is an absolute disgrace. "And all Australians watched that farce in the election campaign as more and more leaks were released during an election campaign."[/release] Also, a video of Gillard confirming a leadership ballot on monday: http://video.news.com.au/2200543708/PM-confirms-ballot
The audacity of Kevin Rudd... I hope someone punches his smug face in
I doubt anyone can save the Labor party at this point, even though I think he'd have a better chance than dullard.
i'm just gonna come out and say it neither labor or liberal can "save our country" rudd what does that even mean anyway
Julia seems very competent to me, however I'd question her character as one that seems cold and calculated, I think at the end of the day she's more interested in her political career than the prosperity of the nation. Rudd is a bit of a dork, and a dick, but he does seem to really believe what he says like he wrote it, while when Gillard speaks it seems more like she's repeating something she re-read dozens of times. Either way i'd prefer both of them over abbot who just seems blindly incompetent.
Australian sex party will save us
I'd vote for satan before I voted for Tony Abbot.
I'll vote Greens so that Tony gets in and gets assassinated (politically or otherwise) after two months of being a fuckwit.
I'll vote Greens so that Tony gets in and gets assassinated (politically or otherwise) after two months of being a fuckwit.
Do you even under stand the Australian political party's ?
man i'd hope he could defeat a leader who's whole election base is based on soundbites, while his off-air personality can be summarized as "male chauvinist prick" and could do better than a prime minister wrapped so tightly in spin that she appears to be the most BORING PERSON ALIVE
Didn't he quit?
I'll vote Greens so that Tony gets in and gets assassinated (politically or otherwise) after two months of being a fuckwit.
You should read the Green's policy before you even say that. The greens will fuck this country up even more than it is now.
Do you even under stand the Australian political party's ?
Yes. Lots of long-time Labor voters are jumping ship this election to Greens, which will divide the results more evenly between them resulting in a Libs victory. Tony Abbott will be universally hated by a few weeks into his reign of terror, and Julie Bishop or someone (maybe Turnbull) will stage another of these silly coups. Also parties.
You should read the Green's policy before you even say that. The greens will fuck this country up even more than it is now.
You are incredibly dense if you think Australia is fucked up, Australia is going fucking amazingly at the moment
You should read the Green's policy before you even say that. The greens will fuck this country up even more than it is now.
I wouldn't intend to have them in power (yet), but as I see it, it's been beneficial them holding a little sway in this current parliament. They'll develop past the Bob Brown luddite idealism, and I hope to one day see them forming government, even if it's an eventual official coalition with the ALP.
i'm just gonna come out and say it neither labor or liberal can "save our country" rudd what does that even mean anyway
He means save the country from getting fucked by Tony Abbot, just like it says in the title. Whether or not you believe Abbot would fuck up Australia, Rudd wants you to think that Abbot will do it if he gets the chance, and that you should support him to keep such a thing from happening. It's not that hard to understand. I'm not even Australian and I get what he's trying to say.
You should read the Green's policy before you even say that. The greens will fuck this country up even more than it is now.
And Abbot won't? He hasn't even got any firm policies. At any rate this is just more Murdoch sensationalism trying to make Labor look like it's in disarray.
Didn't he quit?
He quit his job as minister for foreign affairs while in Washington, so that's kind of a big signal. Gillard issued a challenge to end all these months of bullshitting about who will lead the country and it's not clear whether he has accepted the challenge, as he is still returning to Australia.
I'd vote for that happy little vegemite.
I already know abbot is a retard simply because he called the national broadband network a waste of time.
You should read the Green's policy before you even say that. The greens will fuck this country up even more than it is now.
How is that? I agree with the greens more than these laberal fucks [editline]23rd February 2012[/editline]
I wouldn't intend to have them in power (yet), but as I see it, it's been beneficial them holding a little sway in this current parliament. They'll develop past the Bob Brown luddite idealism, and I hope to one day see them forming government, even if it's an eventual official coalition with the ALP.
The Greens are a knife at the throats of the major parties to keep them going too batty, most of the time.
And Abbot won't? He hasn't even got any firm policies. At any rate this is just more Murdoch sensationalism trying to make Labor look like it's in disarray.
The reason the policy isn't being published is so that it is not plainly copied by other parties. The Liberal party always reveals their full policies when an election is called. It's also not as sensationalist as you think, the Labor party is very divided at the moment. If either Julia or Kevin become leader after monday, their cabinet is still fucked beyond belief because they're split between Gillard and Rudd too. Both Rudd and Gillard are just career politicians who become slave to Labor caucus power brokers. If there's any hope for the Labor party at the next election, it's with a completely new leader. Rudd and Gillard's public standings are ruined beyond what can be fixed. [editline]23rd February 2012[/editline]
I already know abbot is a retard simply because he called the national broadband network a waste of time.
At the rate it's going it won't be finished for a very, very long time. Too much red tape. [editline]23rd February 2012[/editline]
He quit his job as minister for foreign affairs while in Washington, so that's kind of a big signal. There is absolutely no one that i would vote for. Literally everyone is a terrible candidate. Well, except the Australian Sex Party.
