It's just softbody physics, with a nice damage model. Nothing really new. I want to see them simulate the difference in it's different parts more explicitly, it's a bit too spongy.
It would be fun as hell to see this implemented in a GTA game. It was tried in GTA4 but it was completely unrealistic in a lot of ways.
Holy shit, I could have hours of fun just smashing cars into stuff. This looks amazing.
looks to be the same soft body stuff that rig of rods uses, which would be awesome to see in bigger games. as lifehole said, a game like GTA with softbody physics done well would be fucking awesome. or maybe a forza game
EDIT: Derp it even says "FROM THE TEAM BEHIND RIG OF RODS" in big bold letters in the first like 10 seconds.
Is Rig of Rods good? If it is anything like this demo I might give it a try.
I find the OP's name fitting
There's a thread posted with one of the developers in General Gaming Discussion if I'm not mistaken if you guys are interested.
why Garry still not try cryengine...

everyones computer would start a fire
i was listening to loadsamoney while i saw this how appropriate
Could this work in a game like battlefield.
I hope that this will be a playable game or mod. It looks so awesome.

Eh in my opinion Rigs of Rods is a bit of a mess. So many things not included yet and has a pretty rough interface.
I get the feeling that the car is made of jelly. It's a great proof of concept, but it's still really rough.
It be a great addition to have a bunch of little fragments of metal fly all over the place.

I'd imagine they are going to add something like this at some point, likely with a particle system of some sort which would come more towards the end of the development process since it's aesthetic. Although it would help quite a bit with the effect.
Is it possible to get something like this anywhere to play around with?
Once I see destruction physics that can accurately replicate this situation

I'll be impressed.

Rigs of Rods, a project by these same developers using the exact same technology. Although it's a VERY unfinished game, but once you learn to cope with it's quirks its a ton of fun.
Stuff like this would be amazing in ARMA 3, just think of it, doing an raid on a truck convoy seeing all the vehicles slowly fall apart as they use them as cover.

You can do that in ROR in theory, but the beam structure would have to be incredibly complex. ROR isn't entirely optimized as is, so doing such is rather unfeasible.
To everyone say that the truck looks jiggly, it's because the bed moves, that happens on real trucks too.
If you drove a real truck over terrain that ruff and at that speed it would probably look a lot like that.
"THE MOST REALISTIC DAMAGE MODEL EVER"

Game engines aren't perfect buddy.
Would be better if the car had a bit more weight to it. It seems quite floaty on that video
still too shitty to put in a real game
So... basically... with the way cars are driven in games (crysis 1 anyone?)
We will be needing to find a new car every 30 seconds.
That poor Silverado...
Still pretty cool
People in this thread have completely unrealistic expectations.
Think of it this way. There was a time when the concept of on-the-fly music decompression from an .mp3 file was unheard of, hence why CD's can only store 80 minutes of music on 700 megs.
Look at mobile phones now, too. Quad core CPU's in a handheld device. Even 5 years ago, a phone like that would be unheard of.

Depends if you want a more realistic game
