A garden city with an initial 15,000 homes will be built at Ebbsfleet in Kent, George Osborne has announced.
The chancellor told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show the site was chosen because there was "fantastic" infrastructure and it was in south-east England where pressure on housing has been high.
He said local people wanted to see regeneration of the area.
Labour suggested an existing plan had been re-announced. The Lib Dems said it was a "massive Tory U-turn".
Didn't suspect this from the Tories. Still, I guess we do need more homes.
Garden towns are weird. No climbing moss or old buildings. It's like walking around a movie prop.
There is literally nothing here, why would you want to live here. Why.
Oh nice, finally more housing down there. Property prices are insane.
This could be awesome, if I graduate it'd be possible to move there, stay close-ish to home and hopefully work in the area.

This'll build stuff there!
New housing being built everywhere you go down here it's bloody ridiculous
While it wasn't specifically mentioned I wouldn't be surprised if this is somewhat tied into the safeguarded Crossrail extension to Hoo Junction that just so happens to pass right by the area slated for this construction. I know, right? If you're going to go nuts, at least build an arcology or two.

Which in turn will cause prices to rocket up after a while but bring a ton of growth as it becomes a town good for commuters.
