The last time anyone saw D.B. Cooper, he parachuted out of a Seattle-bound airplane with $200,000 in ransom strapped to his body, vanishing over the Pacific Northwest and initiating one of America's greatest manhunts.
Forty-five years later, the FBI is closing the books on this unsolved case.
"We have arrived at our conclusion today that it was just time to close the case because there isn't anything new out there," said Special Agent in Charge Frank Montoya, Jr. "There's a lot that goes into that decision but really it was just time."
The infamous hijacking that took place in 1971 became one of the bureau's "longest and most exhaustive investigations," the FBI said.
While the bureau has chased down an immense number of leads and tips from the public, including accounts of sudden unexplained wealth and detailed descriptions matching the hijacker, none has resulted in definitive answers.
"Unfortunately, none of the well-meaning tips or applications of new investigative technology have yielded the necessary proof," the FBI said. "Every time the FBI assesses additional tips ... investigative resources and manpower are diverted from programs that more urgently need attention."
Montoya told reporters at a news conference that the decision to close the case was his.
And the man who closed the case?
D.B. Cooper in disguise!
Well now we'll never know...
Good. Now the FBI can put more manpower behind a far more important cause: figuring out how to prove that Ted Cruz is really the Zodiac Killer.
He probably drowned in that river
I mean some kid did find his money near a river right
I really hope DB Cooper leaves a letter of confession when he dies so we can close this mystery completely. With evidence that proves he's the real one, at that.

It was buried by a river, so more likely he landed in some rednecks back yard with 200,000 grand and got his ass shot
Now we can focus on who was responsible for the Max Headroom hijacking.
Just kidding, we'll never find out who did that. :v:
Does this mean if I find the money I get to keep it?
My grandfather actually owns a large portion of the plane (I believe the actual exit door seciton) that he jumped out of.
Seth green found it already, didn't they watch the movie?
Goes to show that the FBI can't solve everything.
Everybody seems to assume the opposite for some reason.

because every year there's a dozen cop shows presenting them (and other federal agencies) as expert investigators that solve every single case handed to them.
C'mon now, XKCD figured it out ages ago!

Two things:
The Pursuit of DB Cooper is a surprisingly entertaining movie. Nothing exceptional, just a good popcorn movie.
I always thought that no one, NO ONE, comes up with a plan to jump out of a plane with money like that unless they also have the landing and escape figured out. I'm supposed to believe he had everything except the most important part mapped out to the last detail? I think the authorities have tried to spin it that he died on the escape because what's their other option? Admit "Yeah, the dude was a total badass who pulled off an unbelievable escape"?

An interesting thing to note about this is he specifically asked for an older model of parachute, a military service one if I recall correctly. Been too long since I've read about the case.
He asked for a consumer-grade civilian parachute.
you guys are forgetting who the real db cooper is

The FBI also concluded that DB Cooper, while careless and irresponsible with such a large sum of money, shouldn't be recommended for indictment since there's little evidence that he actually intended to steal that money.
Well now we'll never know...
five years later obama finds him in a compound in morocco
The only sad part about this is that DB Only made away with 200 grand. A Seattle cop makes that in 2 years after he's been on the force for just 5 these days. You'd expect a plan and escape like this to be some absurd amount of money, but nope.

What is inflation? Adjusting that's over a million.
Just under $1.2 million in today's money
Considering none of the bills turned up in circulation he probably died during the jump (the weather was very poor) or on landing.
