So for the last month I've been working very hard on a montage of the greatest deaths in film. I'm a film fanatic and future film student and I was very ambitious in developing my original concept. After editing it for a few weeks, I realized that it was impossible to cram everything I wanted into one montage. Instead of making one montage to create my list, I'm going to make a few. But don't view this as a "part one" to anything; it is one whole work that I put a tremendous amount of effort into and I hope that it shows.
So please, if you would, take a few minutes out of your day to watch this and tell me how I did. I would really, really appreciate it. Make sure to watch it in 720p!

Just FYI, movies included are No Country for Old Men, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Oldboy, Atonement, and Star Wars (had to use segments from all of them to really get at Vader's character).
And could you guys please "like"/thumbs up the video on youtube if you enjoy it? A lot of you guys are saying how much you like it but as it stands the video now has 22 likes and 2 dislikes, and I feel like I hear absolutely NOTHING from people that dislike it so strongly that they would rate it as such, but barely anyone that talks about how much they love it rates it on youtube. please do this, it makes my video look like garbage when the ratings are like that. It makes people not want to watch it and it makes me feel like crap to have put so much work into something only to have a few people make me feel bad without telling me how to improve.
To those that would seriously "dislike" it on youtube (which means you would really go through the effort to tell me you didn't like it), please post here. I won't be mad, I just want justification so I can make my next work better. It seems silly that you would screw with the rep of the video but not help me improve.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was an amazing movie.
very well done. gave you an artistic.
really cool, good job.
thanks bros!

and absolutely agreed. I wish I could have fleshed it out a bit more because it's so beautiful but I just had to spend a lot of time on Vader because of how much he has in his character.
Wow, this was really well put together!
I personally find the death of Anikans mother to have an extreme level of emotion behind it, something very thrilling and powerful, and the Death of Vader to be the most symbolic in the way that Luke saved his father from the dark side, but couldn't save his life.
Vader is a very powerful man, in character alone, IMHO. I find Lucas to be amazing for his movies, but these days, I'm sick of how he doesn't take what he has and doesn't make any new movies, he only milks what he's already made, its terrible.
Anyways, this was nice. I thought the music was very fitting and stern. I'm also subscribing. "Before I Sleep: A Dead Space 2 Montage [HD]" is also cool.

thank you. i'm glad that my effort shows...trust me, it was a hell of a lot of work. I also had so many more ideas I wanted to implement but ran out of time in the song :(
but I'll be making more!

I agree on all of those counts. Although I don't hold the prequels in such high regard, they did certain things very well. Anakin's mom's death is pretty tragic and well handled. Also when I flash that scene when vader is dying it's not only because it served an obvious purpose but also because I think that it was a purposefully made parallel between the movies, conceptually bridging the prequels and the original triology. Very intelligent filmmaking.

The originals were amazing and incredibly artistic, the prequels also were, but they were inevitably lesser halves simply for being prequels.
I still give his work a 10/10, though.

Yeah, I agree. He has an incredible artistic vision.

Damn shame he doesn't use what he has and makes something like the origins of Yoda, or the Jedi. I guess he's just too old.
That was amazing, good job.

Yeah, I'd say his glory days are over.

thanks!
Greatest.. more like most dramatized in my eyes.
[editline]29th July 2011[/editline]
But yeah so you made the shortie. I'm glad to tell you that you tricked me into watching the whole thing, so it means it's good because I'm picky. I skipped some of the star wars shit though.
That was great. Didn't really understand some of it as i haven't seen all of those movies though.

errrr you think that the deaths in Atonement, Oldboy, NCFOM and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly are the most dramatized of all time? If you've seen any of those you would know how understated they are in the movies they appear in...if anything, I did the dramatizing. The death scene I put in from NCFOM doesn't even happen on-screen, and you think it's over dramatized? It's debatable whether Atonement, NCFOM and Diving Bell are among the greatest movies ever made, but I would think twice before you ever insult an undeniable titan of a film like Oldboy.
I can possibly see that complaint for Star Wars (it's a space opera, you think it wouldn't be dramatized?), but I can't believe the others are over dramatized
and I don't feel the least bit complimented that I "tricked" you into watching the whole thing (you even skipped some of it, what you claim to be a discerning eye seems to be an impatient one to me...you can't watch six minutes of a montage?), many of my closest friends are film students at some of the best film schools in the world and they loved it and didn't have to be "tricked" into watching the whole thing
Whoa.. okay.
This is probably one of the best videos I've seen all year. You actually encouraged me to watch Atonement, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and Oldboy.
The music fit very nicely as well
Holy shit. Best video I've seen all week. What's the song? Don't answer that if you put it down, I'm JUST about to look...

Thanks! I'm sure you found out by now but it's "No One is Ever Going to Want Me" by Giles Corey. You should check out his self-titled if you liked it!

I wished one day he would redo the prequels, and stop using fucking CGI.
I wished one day he would redo the prequels, and stop using fucking CGI.
If only that decision had been made in the first place. Part of what makes his original trilogy so special is how real it feels, not because of CGI but because of incredible set and costume design. I feel like the excessive use of CGI in the prequels really took away that magical, mystical feeling that the original trilogy did.
it's funny how that works...it feels much more real without CGI that is designed to be photorealistic
Also, I want to ask you guys something: how well did I pull off mixing up all of the footage? Most of the scenes you see in that montage are butchered in terms of chronology; I made the movies match my vision instead of the other way around. Does it look fluid, does it look good? For instance, something I meticulously edited was the eye blink transition at 0:34. Or, for another example, the beginning of the Vader sequence at 2:44. I completely mixed it up to make it more sinister. The guy is still alive when his legs are swinging (I put the choking that comes after that part in the movie before it in the montage) but I tried to make it seem like he wasn't.
Oh and if you guys have any particular suggestions for movies to look into I'm open to them, I have a list already but it's open to alterations
lol why didn't that post as an edit
OLDBOY!

one of my absolute favorites.
That was pretty incredible, awesome editing job.

Thank you. My intent was to make a montage that wasn't like the other montages on youtube by spending an inordinate amount of time on it. I think the work paid off.
mmyes, this is very good. Thank you for the emphasis on ben kenobi's and vader's death. There's something about those deaths I especially like. I however feel that you maybe should have included something from se7en, perhaps [sp]spacey being shot at the end, or the scene that's similar to the one in No Country, where he kills Pitt's wife[/sp], because I believe that they, too, are great film deaths. Otherwise this was really well made and I appreciate the time you put in this.
What is the music called?

thank you, and I considered those.
and you mean the genre? I consider Giles Corey to be pretty unique, but some call him depressive folk or ambient shoegaze.

and if anyone who reads this honestly hates the video so much that they would rate it negatively on youtube, please post here. absolutely none of the people that I've talked to about it have any inclination towards disliking it that much...it seems pretty dumb to me that someone would fuck with the rep of my video (the video that I put a backbreaking amount of work into) without at least giving me the criticisms that they clearly harbor
