Display screwing up whenever I start a game, GPU problem? (kind of urgent)

I was playing Metal Gear Rising and suddenly my screen went black and 1minute later I got a blue screen of sorts, restarted, tried again, got a weird screen with the halves on the wrong sides
When I'm on the desktop doing normal stuff everything's fine, but when I start up any game it screws up like this, I did 700+cuts yesterday to test it and it started lagging like shit, think I might have overheated it?
I updated my GPU drivers and it still happens, temperatures seem normal but I dunno, I have a friend coming over from England in 3days and we were planning on playing some games so I'm kind of worried.
GPU is Radeon HD6870 ; CPU i5 2400k; dxdiag detects no problems

It's p.firmly in place so I'm really not sure if I should bother taking it out and back in.
Reinstalled windows cause it was a bit of a mess but the problem still persists.
Whenever a game gets a bit heavy it happens and i get a ton of artifacts too
I got the card around a year ago though so I guess it's dying or something?
When I take a screen it comes out normal so it should be an issue with the GPU
Also getting blue-screens half the time when it screws up
Either it's overheating or dying, what are the temperatures when playing a game?
