One rock could have ruined this guy's day instantly. I hit a rock playing roller hockey not even going that fast and ended up grinding my thumb nail completely off and losing a couple flaps of skin on my fingers. I was picking gravel out of the flesh that is under the nail, that was no fun at all!

probably a car tailing him.
How would he stop?
How would he stop?
Very painfully. Or he can slide the excess speed off.
I've done 40mph or so on my speedboard, and that was fast enough. Once you have to tuck just to stay balanced there is nothing you can do but slide to slow down, ride it out, or be in for a tremendous amount of pain and possible lost skin. I haven't crashed in 3 years, but I sill have scars from when I did.
Here's the world record for top speed on a speedboard or longboard (80.83mph or 130.08kmh):

you know that sensation you get when you're at the top of something really high and your feet start tingling to tell you FUCKING STOP
it's fucking painful watching this
Why isn't he wearing back protection?
That guy is nuts, but think about this; the guy behind him is doing the same thing but holding a camera with two hands and trying to get a shot
Why isn't he wearing back protection?
as of right now there isn't anything for back protection that wouldn't hinder your longboard experience that i know of. Most of the time when you fall you're riding it out on your pucks and toes (and/or knee-pads) anyway if you have the proper equipment.

Slide gloves w/ pucks and kneepads are a must. If you're going this fast you should have a helmet and as much body protection as you can. Crashes at 40mph hurt, crashes at 60-70mph are a whole 'nother story.
Spectacular.

More likely a fellow boarder which is what you see 90% of the time in these videos, I don't think a car could risk tailing that close, unless they had a big ol' crane mount. If he ate it they'd run right over him.

Then he's more impressive than the guy being filmed. He's keeping up perfectly with him while holding a camera.

Nah, not on a longboard. A skateboard for sure, ive hit fairly sized rocks and even cracks/curbs going reasonably fast on my longboard, theyre designed to take that.

Its usually a car so they can block any cars that may come up behind him
Yeah I need a video of the guy videoing this video.

Thought so.. I can't imagine someone riding a longboard at about 70 MPH while holding a camera.
However you can use a longboard when filming skateboarding scenes! :eng101:
Its probably just a helmet cam with some kind of stabalizer.
Jesus Christ one pebble and he would be fucked. Im amazed the board can withstand going that fast without just falling apart.

These aren't your average walmart skateboard.
Most longboard videos I've seen are filmed with cars riding behind.

Look at this video, at 1:36 when the rider falls over the car slams the brakes and stops before he rolls over him.
This is basically when you hang off the cars in the tony hawk games.
