A festival dedicated to dog meat in southern China has been targeted by protesting animal lovers, who have won a minor concession from local officials, an activist says.
Source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/2013/06/19/19/14/activists-target-china-dog-meat-festival Their culture has been around longer than the activist, they own the right to do this.
Their culture has been around longer than the activist, they own the right to do this.
what a bizarre sentence.
why eating poor doggies? it doesn't feel nice
I dont see the problem, different cultures and all, it's not a torture dog festival, its an eat dog festival.
there's a festival dedicated to him?
It's an animal, just like cows, pigs, and lobsters. I don't see the issue with eating dog.
It seems to be more about animal cruelty than the fact that they eat dogs.
"This year the government has said they feel under pressure from online activism ... so they have a special team to monitor the festival," Du said. But the measures were unlikely to prevent the annual feast, she said. "I think the team will reduce the cruelty somewhat, but mostly on the surface," she said, adding: "We have seen animals beaten just before being cooked ... the more we inspect, the more cruelty we discover."

Their culture has been around longer than the activist, they own the right to do this.
I'm pretty sure you need something first before protesting against it, so that makes no sense :v:
This statement holds true for basically any culture, but you don't see us having black slaves anymore do you?
You imply black slavery is white culture. Remember back in the day when black people were just a myth of the desert and were non-existant in Europe? Your move, Mr. Lawman.
Source: Their culture has been around longer than the activist, they own the right to do this.
So has rape and pillaging, doesn't mean we still have a right to do it.
You imply black slavery is white culture. Remember back in the day when black people were just a myth of the desert and were non-existant in Europe? Your move, Mr. Lawman.
Bizarre logic seems to be your specialty.
Slavery is HUMAN culture and it's still practiced today.
Slavery is HUMAN culture and it's still practiced today.
so we all own the right to own slaves?
Source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/2013/06/19/19/14/activists-target-china-dog-meat-festival Their culture has been around longer than the activist, they own the right to do this.
Just like slavery, right?
You imply black slavery is white culture. Remember back in the day when black people were just a myth of the desert and were non-existant in Europe? Your move, Mr. Lawman.
Slavery has been part of many cultures. I don't understand what you're getting at, are you saying that a culture is created with set attributes, and they will never change, disappear or be replaced? Unless I'm mistaken you are saying in the OP 'the dog meat festival has been going on longer than anyone who has protested it, so they have the right to do it' You can basically say anything has gone on longer than anyone who has protested it, ergo the comparison to slavery which was a Western cultural norm in the last few centuries, but is now gone.
If wolves/dogs weren't domesticated as pets in some parts of the world a very long time ago this would be a non issue. Comparing it to slavery is both moronic and ignorant.
The problem with these activists is that "Eating dog is worse than eating cow!" or whatever, which is a very odd and somewhat hypocritical thing to say. Slavery by itself was an institutionalized form of discrimination, bigotry and hypocrisy ("Black people are inherently inferior because we say so!") so calling it out on its bullshit was a lot more logical than what these activists are trying to do, that is, force their culture on another one for no reason than because they believe theirs is superior (without any sort of reason or facts why)
I see the Chinese take care of their dogs here better than in America. I sometimes wonder if it is because they want them to be fresh and healthy to eat.
nothing wrong with eating dogs as there is a lot of them, it annoys me when they kill endangered animals such as rhinos just for their fake medicine
In some countries, cows are sacred and eating beef is all but a sin.
I don't understand why everyone objects to them eating dog. It's their culture, and as long as the dogs are killed peacefully, not tortured or raped to death or something terrifying. Then I don't see why they can't continue with the practices they have done for many years already.

I wouldn't mind trying dog or cat to see what it tastes like. Of course, if I did and ever told anyone they'd likely flip shit.
In some countries, cows are sacred and eating beef is all but a sin.
not all but a sin, a straight up sin we should repent
It seems to be more about animal cruelty than the fact that they eat dogs.
Considering there was a video on liveleak showing some "festival" where they tie a buffalo or something to a post and hack at its shoulders repeatedly while it runs around the post before they kill it and eat it does seem pretty cruel. I feel thats more shocking than the fact they eat dogs and cats.
This disgusts me so much as a Daily Mail reader that I just can't finish my second battery farmed chicken breast.
I don't really like the idea of eating an animal with social ties to humans and has more uses than to just eat.
Unless the dogs get the living crap kicked out of them, the activists really have nothing to complain about. And lets just stop this whole "KILLING DOGS IS IMMORALLLL1" before it spreads like a wildfire.

And lets just stop this whole "KILLING DOGS IS IMMORALLLL1" before it spreads like a wildfire.
Too late, people are comparing it to rape and slavery. Most of them probably eat beef, despite cow being sacred in some cultures.
