• Random shut downs, now dead.

so my pc's been shutting off randomly lately, often when switching away from youtube tabs, pausing videos or quitting games. Today it did it while I was playing GTAV, first time it's happened completely randomly, it turned back on by itself, with a bit of tearing when on the bios screen I think it was. it worked for ~10 minutes, shut down, tried to boot itself back up but just went "zap zap" and then died completely. Should I expect this to just be PSU, or the whole deal? Tomorrow I'm going to try buying a new PSU and if that doesn't work buy a brand new i7, mobo and DDR4 ram along with a PSU. still I'd like some input/guesses?
Don't buy anything just yet. It could be the PSU, especially because you mentioned a zapping sound. If you have access to another one, try that one out. The motherboard might also be suspect.
My money is on the PSU. The rest is probably fine.
Whats the make and model of the PSU? When did you buy it?
try swapping out the power supply and get back to us.
I have no spare PSU, i tried this already but the only one I had didn't fit. it's a Corsair 750 watt from 2009, so it was probably time.
10/10, new psu fixed it.
I had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago, but it turned off and on again multiple times till it just stopped turning on. Also fucked up the power to some power outlets and lost power from that. Ordered a new PSU the other day. Mine was a Corsair 600w. [editline]29th January 2016[/editline] Which I got in 2014.
"Zap zap"? Did Bill Cosby sell you the PSU?
my cpu seems fekked now, games will take ages to load up, freeze when alt tabbing and such. HWMonitor is also saying it maxed out at 3464mhz on a stock i7-920, which shouldnt go far past 2700.
Try reset your BIOS
