• Pumpkin carving, u jelly?

So my wife calls me downstairs and says we should carve pumpkins together with the kids. I'm all game for that, sounds like fun! But when I mention to her I had to think of something to carve, she tells me "just carve one of the patterns that came in kit". No, no, no and NO! I can't stand walking around on Halloween and seeing all these houses with the same design on their pumpkins. So I told her "fuck that, I'll be right back". I headed to my computer and started rummaging around for an idea of something to carve. I really didn't care all that much, just as long as it was something none of my neighbors were gonna do. I got distracted reading Troll Physics when it hit me... COOL FACE. Now I know this probably isn't anything original, but I figured it was going to at least be unique on my block (and those within a proximity of me) so why not? Let me also say I'm in no way saying this is a masterpiece... but I did this shit by hand, pattern and all, so I'm pretty excited about it. I know I could have done it with a printer but the fun part was doing it from scratch. So first off I took the image into Photoshop and simplified it into a pattern I could use on a pumpkin. This only took a few minutes. I overlaid the image with a grid and then screen captured it and sent the link to my Nexus One via Chrome To Phone. Then I did some basic math. I took the area on the pumpkin I wanted the face to cover, measured it and calculated how big each grid should be to scale the image properly (rounded to the nearest ruler measurement). Then I used a ruler and measured out where the lines should be. Once I had them all measured out I filled in the grid I used the image I had on my phone as a reference and started drawing the pattern Using the grid lines as block references made it pretty easy to mimic the design. Once I finished the design I carved the guts out of the pumpkin... nothing special I started poking through the pattern onto the pumpkin. At first I did it with a lot of detail then I got bored and started adding just reference points I got excited to start carving because punching holes over and over just gave me a hand cramp. Then I realized even cutting gave me a hand cramp. Oh well. Then the fucking precision blade broke... so much for that $2 investment. I guess you get what you pay for. After the other blade broke I had to use the larger one made for carving the top lid. It actually worked better than the small one After finishing the face carving I used a flashlight to see how the light came through. HUGE SUCCESS! I have a bit more cleaning up to do on the inside of the face (those stringy guts that hang behind the carving but are too slimy to grab), I figure I can clean that shit up tomorrow after its dried up a bit. I carved in the finishing touch and put it away for the night
Holy shit, awesome dude
Hilarious. Good idea, and excellent execution. I could never carve that good. :( -Also, I see no kids, nor wife.- ^ | | Scratch that, pic posted a few posts down.
Amazing sir.
Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner.
Hilarious internet memes. Nice pumpkin, nevertheless.
Also, I see no kids, nor wife.
There's the kids and I working on the pumpkins... wife wouldn't let me take a pic :saddowns:
That's fucking cool, I cant do that.
Wish you would have added the teeth.
Wish you would have added the teeth.
Its most likely possible, I just didn't have the patience to do it.

That was just my normal response, as you know what the majority of user's ages are on here. Nice to see someone actually my age or older haha.
I'd find my crayfish pumpkin picture but I have no idea where it's at.

This thread makes me sad though, I haven't bought a pumpkin this year, more less be able to carve it if I did haha. Fucking fingers always cold as ice and unresponsive. Do you know how many times I have to go over a single post to correct spelling before I actually "post" it? Fucking fingers, how do they work. :saddowns: [editline]30th October 2010[/editline]
Is that a pink vacuum cleaner I see? :raise:
Looks like a Dyson (Brand of Vacuum). Am I right OP?
I'm gonna do this today. Haven't decided what design I want to use yet.
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=281582 Bam. Mine was #3. [editline]30th October 2010[/editline] Dremel tools are amazing for carving pumpkins.
Looks like a Dyson (Brand of Vacuum). Am I right OP?
Yea, you're right. And yes its pink. My wife wanted a pink vacuum and shes the one who does the vacuuming... what can I say?
Also, is that a picture of you and your wife on the wall in the living room?
Lol yes... ITT CSI my living room.
I think it looks terrible, without teeth and pupils it looks stupid.
I think it looks terrible, without teeth and pupils it looks stupid.
Let's see you do better than you can say that.
Very nicely done. Most people I know would just look at a normal picture besides the pumpkin for reference, then end up with something slightly similar but kinda crappy.
You should use a dremel to carve off the skin for the stuff like the teeth and eyes.
I think it looks terrible, without teeth and pupils it looks stupid.
it's a GHOOOOST COOoooOOoooOOOOL face. happy?
I think it looks terrible, without teeth and pupils it looks stupid.
Its a pumpkin dude. Chill.
Yea, you're right. And yes its pink. My wife wanted a pink vacuum and shes the one who does the vacuuming... what can I say? Lol yes... ITT CSI my living room.
I'm sorry, I tend to take notice to everything in a picture in seconds. :(
Uhm, this has got to be the best troll-thread ever, even though its not a troll thread, but I feel trolled Kudos, OP.
You should use a dremel to carve off the skin for the stuff like the teeth and eyes.
Yea. Like I said, its not the best... but its my best. :buddy:
Let's see you do better than you can say that.
That's a horrible response to criticism. Just because he may do better won't change anything.

I was going to carve another fish related pumpkin this year but I forgot about the challenge and there was no way I'd be able to start in time. Wish I would have remembered to do it. Original pumpkins are great fun. That was my crayfish, my picture, my pattern. The only thing that didn't come from me was the pumpkin.
