[QUOTE]LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), February 24 (SeeNews) - Japan's Yaskawa Electric Corporation signed an agreement on Friday for the purchase of land in Slovenia's southern municipality of Kocevje where it will build a 25 million euro ($26.5 million) factory for the production of industrial robots, the municipal government said.
The construction of the plant will begin in the autumn, while production is expected to start at the end of 2018, the local government of Kocevje said in a statement. The factory's production will satisfy between 70 and 80% of demand for industrial robots on the European market, the government noted.
The company already has two subsidiaries in Slovenia, Yaskawa Slovenia and Yaskawa Ristro.

I just want to say that I really appreciate facepunch for this. I highly doubt that I ever would've known about Yaskawa's land grab in Slovenia for robotics without fp.
80% of European industrial robots, fuck that's a big market share. i wonder how much of that is going to filter back into the local economy? This is a pretty good investment too, since robotics use is pretty much only going to rise over time. If they're smart they'll build it with a larger capacity than what it needs now, or at least keep space open in surrounding land for expansion.
Hopefully local governments follow Bill's idea and start taxing robots

They've got plenty of land where they're building. Just gotta chop down a couple of trees.

They're not going to come even close to that market share in the EU since they're competing with the likes of ABB and KUKA.
Good thing!

I read it wrong, its 80% of the supply for their european customers. It probably saves the cost of shipping large industrial robots over from japan. Im guessing the remaining 20% is simpler, small machines that can be flown over.
are they gonna build gundams now?
