Pierce Hawthorne is dropping out of Greendale Community College. After a tumultuous three-and-a-half year relationship, Chevy Chase and the producers of NBC’s cult comedy Community are parting ways by mutual agreement. Chase’s departure from the show is effective immediately. The bulk of Community‘s 13-episode fourth-season order have been filmed. Chase won’t appear in the 1 or 2 episodes that have not been shot yet.
The news of Chase’s exit from the Sony TV-produced Community hardly comes as a surprise. His return to the comedy series for Season 4 was somewhat surprising as he hinted multiple times last spring that he might leave. He has been vocal about his displeasure with the Community gig, telling The Huffington Post UK in an interview this fall, “It was a big mistake! I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread, every week, so I can take care of them in the way they want … The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”
Then there was Chase’s public feud with show’s creator/former showrunner Dan Harmon last year, which escalated into a profanity-laced message Chase left on Harmon’s voice mail. (Harmon left the series after the end of last season.) There also have been on-set outbursts that have become a distraction for the rest of the cast and crew. They included a tirade last month, in which Chase used the N-Word. The rant was reportedly prompted by lines of dialogue he found offensive. According to people close to the actor, Chase had been increasingly frustrated and uncomfortable with the direction of his character, Pierce, who is a bigot, and had felt that Pierce had run his course.
Chase’s departure likely won’t have as big of an impact on Community as Harmon’s exit because Pierce is a supporting character in an ensemble led by Joel McHale that has a number of standouts. The show recently got a February 7 Season 4 premiere date and is set to return to its regular Thursday 8 PM time slot. With a February start, Community is unlikely to go beyond the 13 ordered episodes this season. Chase will be in most of them, so his departure will be felt if the series gets a fifth season renewal.
nooooooo! he wasn't my favorite but community won't be complete without him for the last few episodes :(
also the yahoo comments are uninformed as usual so ignore those i suppose

Pierce never seemed like a very important part of the show. Yeah he was funny enough, but not a real linchpin like Winger, that Indian guy, or even the Dean.
First Starburns, and now this? What did we do wrong?
It's a shame that he's going, but DaysBefore is right, he wasn't exactly an important character.
Too bad, he had some great episodes, like that Dungeons & Dragons one, but otherwise wasn't really a big character.
I didn't like him much. The paintball finale was his best moment though.
We're no longer streets ahead.

Chevy is a cunt.
In other news, the grass is green.
He has a massive ego.
Remember Chevy's catchphrase from SNL'S Weekend Update, "I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not"?
His biggest problem is that's actually his personal mantra. He's a notorious douchebag. . .he's the whole reason the NY Friars Club no longer handles the roasts on Comedy Central (Chevy was such an unfunny, bitter asshole about the whole thing that the Friars withdrew, and Comedy Central refused to rerun the roast for years).
I will shed no tears over this. Fuck that guy.
i wonder if the views will go up with him gone? probably not, but anything for a tiny bit of hope for this show to go on for more seasons.. shame it'll most likely end after this half-season.
Bring in Morgan Freeman.
What can go wrong.
Bringing in different famous actors for each episode trying to fill the void would be pretty funny.
Ah man, I guess he wasn't essential but I really liked having him play an ignorant, racist, drug-abusing old man. Whenever I think Community, Pierce is always in the background in my mind, telling everybody they're stupid and gay.
What a dick.
It's a shame but I'm not surprised.
He's notoriously hard to work with due to being such a pompous cunt.
Luckily he hasn't been that prevalent in the show lately so it won't be a huge loss.
So Chevy Chase is gone, and by the article Dan Harmon is gone too? This show wont last that long now.
Kinda reminds me how Trailer Park Boys went.

What? Trailer Park Boys retained all the characters throughout the entire series, sans Cory and Trevor.

Also, the show's going to be a decent bit better for me now. I hated seeing that unfunny old shit's face. It doesn't help that by all accounts Chevy's a total cunt and proud of that fact.
Good riddance.
Damn, he's old. That's sad.
It makes me feel old now. I'm just rotting away slowly, drinking my alcohol, wishing life was as exciting as it used to be. But it won't be.
as long as glover remains a cast member in the show i'll watch it
he's more important to the show than shirley
fuck you guys
His role in the pillow fight episode was my favorite.
I have never heard of Community in my life

trailer park boys never 'went' it lasted 7 seasons and spawned 3 movies! perfect show even without corey and trevor
I always thought he had some of the funniest comments.
I hated Peirce, so it's okay.
