Play nice, it's my first time ever actually attempting to paint something.
Redid it

Like the subject but it doesn't pop out of the background.
It looks good, has a very rough feel to it.
though what is it?
it blends in with the background too much
Ok, i'll attempt to go over the claptrap with a bit more yellow to make it pop some more, it's not completely dry so not all is lost yet
To make something pop you contrast background and foreground with a combination of warm and cool.
You can't go all warm or all cool most of the time, otherwise it blends like this.
I think i'll just re-do this whole painting. I pretty much just ruined it by trying to make it pop more. Going to do a warm/cool contrast next time, k00lwhip.
And fill in the white spaces in the next one!
I'm not familiar with oil painting, but can you effectively paint over colors like acrylic? If so, then it you won't need to worry about the white un-painted outline deal.
Based off of these pictures?

Try defining the lines more, a few of them look too thin.
I thought it kinda looked like a robo-bob as in sponge bob mixed with a robot.
Looks really messy to me, if I could offer more constructive criticism I would but I'm not a painter; start out with still life, get shading and highlights right, then move on to more complex stuff with different materials
Retain the whole rough, grungy look. But add more of a contrast to the background and him. He just blends into the background too much.

You need a smaller brush.
Or at least you need to learn how to use brush strokes wisely. When you were painting around your claptrap, you were painting perpendicular to a straight line. Always try to go parallel so you acheive straighter lines. (Unless it would disrupt the overall pattern of brush strokes throughout your painting)
No he doesn't need a smaller brush.
Old painter's rule: Choose the biggest brush you can possibly use for the painting, then choose the next biggest one.
Big to small, general masses to details. It's how it always works, no exceptions.
Dosent feel right because of the white.
But your better than me.
Try to fill it up.
To be perfectly honest, I liked the first one much better. Sure it didn't exactly pop out, but the overall colour scheme looked much better and I thought it achieved the grungy look you went for. The blue just doesn't give the same effect and using the same color with the background twice within the object did not suit it in my opinion.
Otherwise great job!
Two things mostly-
You need to define your shapes better, even though it's supposed to be grungy, it comes off more as a picture in moving water.
You also need to work on your perspective, I personally hate guidelines and shit when doing art, but it gets you in the motions so you can do it yourself later on.
Otherwise, great job and keep working on your skills.
