‘I hope Trump is assassinated,’ Missouri lawmaker writes — and quickly regrets
A Democratic Missouri state senator from University City posted, then quickly deleted, a comment on Facebook saying she hoped President Donald Trump would be assassinated.
As a result of Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal’s comment, the U.S. Secret Service’s St. Louis field office is investigating and both Sen. Claire McCaskill and the chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party have called on her to resign.
Chappelle-Nadal told The Star that she posted the comment out of frustration with the “trauma and despair” the president is causing with his statements about the events in Charlottesville, Va.
“The way I responded this morning was wrong,” she told The Star. “I’m frustrated. Did I mean the statement? No. Am I frustrated? Absolutely. The president is causing damage. He’s causing hate.”
Chappelle-Nadal posted the comment on her personal Facebook page, which is not open to the public.
“On my personal Facebook, I put up a statement saying that I really hate Trump. He’s causing trauma and nightmares. That was my original post,” she said. “A whole bunch of people responded to that.”

Later in the thread, in response to another commenter, she wrote: “I hope Trump is assassinated!”
She later deleted the comment.
“It was wrong for me to post that,” Chappelle-Nadal said. “But I am not going to shy away from the damage this president is causing.”

So far she is refusing to resign.
How to kill a political career, step 1.
I expect a Trump tweet very soon.
And this isn't helping one bit. Trump and his administration is already in the process of destroying itself from the inside-out; it doesn't need hot-blooded Dems running around making stupid statements like this. It'll only make them look bad and validate his lunacy.

"Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal, low-energy raving Liberal from failing Missouri, wants me dead but YOU CAN'T KILL AMERICA! SAD."
I'm no fan of Trump but you just can't say that in a law-based society.
How are people that are so unable to control their emotions enough not to write borderline illegal (inciting violence) and clearly morally wrong things voted into positions of power in the first place.
Imagine being so fucking stupid that you:
A. Get worked up enough in a Facebook post comment section that you write a death threat to the president on a semi-public facebook
B. Post a death threat to the President of the United States while as a United States Senator while talking to your friends who are probably also US senators/political workers, and then refuse to resign in peace/pressure from your own party
I'm no fan of Trump but you just can't say that in a law-based society.
ya but we're like 8 months past that already. Trump has called for his political opponents to be locked up, our ethics commities are jokes, our house ethics chair posted a picture of him shaking Clinton's hand with the caption "The investigation will continue..." and the president considers the opposition party, an enemy of the state.
its not right to call for his assasination but you can't say that its shocking in this country especially with the way the right has turned into the party of spite, hate, and liberal bashing. We have already had one person legitimately paranoid enough by this that he took up arms with the intent to kill as many republicans as he could before they came for him.
I'm no fan of Trump but you just can't say that in a law-based society.
This doesn't break any laws though. It can kill her career, but it's not illegal to outwardly hope someone gets assassinated. This doesn't at all reach meddlesome priest territory.
I wish some people I know of were dead too, doesn't mean I'm breaking any laws by saying so.
Repeat of conspiring senators stabbing a populous dictator in the senate house, when? Sic semper tyrannis.

Nos ire ut iterum nos autem quaerimus, stulte magistratus
Or in actual non-latin'd text, what the fuck is wrong with you dude?
Repeat of conspiring senators stabbing a populous dictator in the senate house, when? Sic semper tyrannis.
...to then begin a years long civil war that ends with the installation of an emperor that ruled with total executive powers.
I get her frustration with Trump but that was a really retarded thing to say. Even more so when you consider that Trump getting assassinated would just martyrize him to the people stupid enough to still follow him thus convincing them he was right on everything.
I want Trump to live a long, long life
So when the consequences of these years are felt sometime from now, that he has nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, nowhere to run, and he can witness for himself, and be forced to see the consequences of his own bullshit before he dies.
"I hope the President is assassinated" as a senator is uncomfortably close to "who will rid me of this troublesome priest?" and well that didn't turn out well for anyone.
well that's one less democratic senator in a GOP-controlled congress. good job you fucking idiot.

Ironically, this outcome could happen to the US. Trump won't see the consequences, he'll be part of it.

She is a state senator, not a US senator. Shitty for us living in Saint Louis, but not a big deal on the national stage.

oops, bad reading on my part. still though, the lack of self-control on her part is ridiculous. even trump is smart enough to couch his weird threats in some kind of plausible deniability

Oh yeah, I totally agree. She needs to resign.

I have the feeling that once this news reaches the nation at large, she'll capitulate pretty quickly. If not, censure and impeachment from the General Assembly could force her hand.
It's embarrassing that this is what others hear about Missouri. I'm proud to be a Missourian, but I wish we could have a better reputation than this shit.
I love modern politics. Ending a career and wasting so much of your hard work and time with a facebook post. Beautiful.

The fact there's senators for internal state Congress as well as senators in our Federal Congress for each state makes it really freaking easy to mix up, lol.

In all honesty, I had to Google it to make sure I wasn't bullshitting lol. The multiple layers of our government definitely make it easy to confuse.
Hey lady, this was a rash and poorly thought out comment. You can't just say something like that about a famous politician.
What you should have done was quoted the man himself!
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said, as the crowd began to boo. He quickly added: “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.”
I'd be calling for her resignation over that, too. That's the difference between Trump's deplorable core and the rest of the fuckin' world -- nobody else tolerates threats against the lives of their political opponents.

Oh no absolutely, I was just being facetious for the most part. A fairly high ranking politician saying anything that alludes to assassination should always be career suicide.

I mean, if my president enabled an ideology that wanted me dead, I'd be pretty pissed too.
Not that that excuses what she said.
