Sony and Microsoft will be duking out the next console war for years to come, but there's one company that wins no matter what: chipmaker AMD, which managed to put processors in every new console, including the Nintendo Wii U, the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One. If you buy any new game console this holiday, you'll be helping to fill AMD's depleted coffers — but AMD's sweep could have far more significance than that. The company's dominance in next-gen consoles could actually make PC gaming more relevant than it's been in ages. You might be aware that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 won't be backwards compatible with games built for prior systems. As Sony and Microsoft bothexplained, it's partly because the new consoles use an incompatible processor architecture. While the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 used PowerPC parts, the new consoles have AMD chips that run on the x86 instruction set. If that sounds familiar, it should: Apple made the very same shift in 2006, when it started putting Intel processors into the Mac. In each of these transitions, there are ways to stay compatible, but it’s a difficult and costly thing. Apple’s Rosetta software for translating between PowerPC and x86 didn’t have the speed for intensive applications. The PS3 originally shipped with the guts of a PS2 inside, increasing the cost of the machine. Inevitably, legacy software gets the boot. But now that the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC all share the same x86 architecture, it could be much easier to port games between PCs and next-gen consoles.
Actually happy that AMD will soon get loadsemoney from consoles to stay alive. http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/21/4452488/amd-sparks-x86-transition-for-next-gen-game-consoles
This isn't news. PC has always been masterrace.
I'm glad that the deals with the console manufacturers will keep AMD in the game against Intel and the extra cash will bolster their R&D efforts immensely.
The consoles would've all cost more if they went with Intel, obviously. I use AMD because it's cheaper and it works. Good for AMD on this one.

Good. Intel i5 user here, but I'm really hoping AMD stays alive. competition is always good.
Ouya wins you fools.
AMD <3
Nvidia is doomed
This isn't news. PC has always been masterrace.
Not always but for the most part.
Personally I'm hoping all this console war bullshit will make people go for PC

I always thought that ps4 and xbox was a hobo-fight for us PC:ers to watch
Nvidia is doomed

Nvidia is doomed
Eh, why? As long as their hardware stays up to par and they, as usual, spit out really quick really powerful hotfix patches a few days after an AMD-finetuned title hits the market, I don't see what would cause the situation to drastically change. Nvidia must've seen some pretty dark omens on the horizon of the traditional console lineup to not only decline making hardware for the big boys, but also stuff money into Shield.
Until AMD can into drivers, Nvidia all the way!
My beef with AMD/ATI is that they're a little bit too trigger happy with abandoning a series because "it's old lol"
No drivers or your house burning down. Pick one.
Playing games with 10FPS (Intel integrated)
nVidia and Intel are good, but AMD aren't bad, and they aren't overpriced, which makes them just as good. I've found all my AMD stuff has been reliable and worked as advertised as well as anything you could ask for, and they did it for less money I really hate how games will suck the cock of one or the other, rather than both, though. And because of it you get features that other people don't, and vise versa, even though it's the same game
Until AMD can into drivers, Nvidia all the way!
Don't act like nvidia drivers don't have their problems too http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Nvidia-196.75-drivers-over-heating,9802.html
We do pretty much always come out on top. But the whole "masterrace" thing is fucking annoying.
Personally I'm hoping all this console war bullshit will make people go for PC
The PS4 and Xbox One already broke preorder records on Amazon.
The PS4 and Xbox One already broke preorder records on Amazon.
I can guarantee more people are buying PC's right now :v:
I can guarantee more people are buying PC's right now :v:
Hundred of thousands of people are currently in the process of buying a PC?
The clear winner of the console war is AMD.
Why the hate toward consoles? I do not follow. I hear it's something about processing power. I also fail to see why paying a fourth of a powerful computer's price for a gaming platform is a bad thing.
As much as I'm an Intel/NVidia user, I'm glad about this. If AMD went under, Intel and NVidia would end up with ridiculous monopolies and the markup on their products would become enormous.
Why the hate toward consoles? I do not follow.
Closed platform which often reduces technical advances down to once every handful of years, instead of in a "rolling" fashion.
Closed platform which often reduces technical advances down to once every handful of years, instead of in a "rolling" fashion.
To add a little to this, Basically if you're making a Triple A game, you HAVE to put on on console as well as PC or it just won't sell as well. What this means is that usually to save time or money, PC ports get the short end of the stick later on in a console's lifespan because console hardware is never updated, while PC hardware is getting better all the time. This means that a Triple A game on release of the Xbone and PS4 will not be too hard of a PC port since they are supposedly on-par for now. But 5 years from now, the Xbox One and PS4 will be ridiculously underpowred compared to a bleeding edge gaming PC, so games will slowly stop taking advantage of the bleeding edge because it would take too much time/money to enable a game to both run on consoles and take advantage of new hardware. (Thus, games make big leaps in graphics quality and engine functionality when a new console releases, and then it slows down until a new console is released and the process begins anew.) And that's why PC gamers don't like consoles.
I hope AMD uses the money to turn their shit around. Their processors are not very good from what I have heard (I buy Intel CPUs though so I do not know) but I currently have a Radeon 7950 SAPPHIRE for my GPU and I fucking love this monster. It is a rolling beast of terror.
