US-based online payment service PayPal has decided to block financial transfers to WikiLeaks after governments around the world initiated legal action against the whistleblower website. "PayPal has permanently restricted the account used by WikiLeaks due to a violation of the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity," PayPal said in a statement released late on Friday. "We've notified the account holder of this action," the statement said. Over the past several days, WikiLeaks has begun publishing the first of 250,000 US diplomatic cables, creating an international firestorm as American diplomats' private assessments of foreign leaders and politics has been publicly aired. The release was the third major publication of secret US files by WikiLeaks this year, after the whistleblower website published tens of thousands of American military files from the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts. The United States and other governments said the release of the documents were against their laws.
Source What a horrible week for Wikileaks :(

People are really trying to bring him down.
The only "illegal" activity that the U.S. has actually been able to pin on Assange is "suprise sex". (Apparently that's enough for an international arrest warrant, too.)
Wikileaks cant catch a break can they.
Governments can make anything illegal.
This makes me want to donate now. Wikileaks are just getting shit on lately.
I'm pretty sure only the US and Sweden governments are mad face at Wikileaks right now and not the rest of the world.
Anyone mind uploading the insurance file, since wikileaks is down I can't get it.
What is the insurance file? What's inside it?
Well PayPal locks and limits any account with no reason at all so it's not much of a surprise.
NO! Bad government! Take your punishment like a good child! Honestly, governments just don't know when to take their punishments... They're filthy little cowards, the lot of them. Though I doubt thousands of angry people sending them loads of angry emails telling them to just accept their wrongdoings would do anything other than result in the mass arrest of thousands of people.
wikileaks = fukk da policee yeahhh copropration govenment lole!!!!1 you know i'm right
Anyone mind uploading the insurance file, since wikileaks is down I can't get it.
It never was on WikiLeaks, it's on The Pirate's Bay. And here is the new site: http://www.wikileaks.ch/
That was uncalled for. But now we see how much this leak really affected the US gouverment. However there are other ways to donate: http://213.251.145.96/support.html
What is the insurance file? What's inside it?
The insurance file is supposed to contain every single document. It's got a AES256 encryption though which is pretty much uncrackable. The password is said to be released when Assange gets arrested.
Let's just get couple Anonymous hackers to spread some horro and destruction because of these acts. Bring the government of U.S.A down.
if the US just ignored wikileaks the average person wouldn't even find out about the "leaked documents" [editline]4th December 2010[/editline] but instead it's pasted all over the news now, and even people that aren't up to date technologically are figuring out about this stuff
It never was on WikiLeaks, it's on The Pirate's Bay. And here is the new site: http://www.wikileaks.ch/
a link that finally works in australia! ty
a link that finally works in australia! ty
http://wikileaks.info/ has a list of mirrors FYI.
They must have a lot to hide to be so determined to take Wikileaks down.
Fuck you goverment, I'm downloading this file.
Send them donations via their PayPal acco- Oh wait.
You can donate directly via credit card or with a wire transfer
Well, they keep getting cut off from every US based service they have.

Because a non-government organization closes a customer's account because of a TOS violation?
