Looks cool, they just need to fix the zombies. Love the new jumping though, much better than coming to a dead stop with a horde on your tail so you can slowly vault over a fence
So is this on the ArmA2 engine or not?
Still needs a ton of work. Can't imagine it will be done anytime soon.
bad
jesus christ it looks horrible and they've still got the thing where you get hit by zombies when they're nowhere near you, and that was on a singleplayer build
I'm glad they're trying to focus on plausibility with weapons. Nobody needs an anti-materiel rifle. It just makes me wonder why they made zombies into leaping track runners...
Looks okayish but it still looks rather buggy. I find most games are fun with friends though so hopefully it will be alright
damn the animations do not look well
I don't know what stage of alpha/beta it is. But before people start jumping the gun and saying how awful it looks the standalone alpha comes out soon for people to participate in. Looks a lot better then the mod is all i got to say.
Left ear. Ow. How the fuck is this even an issue? Do some people go "WHOOPS DRAGGED THE AUDIO LEVELS TO THE LEFT, CAN'T FIX IT" when making their videos?
While an improvement over the mod, what they are showing or what stage they suggest they are at is a bit concerning. Remember how they wanted to have an alpha out before Christmas? Give it another six months and they'll have something far more substantial. I just hope they aren't getting bogged down by simple ideas or mechanics.
I'm not paying shit for something that doesnt have better quality than a mod.
The fucking knock down feature is so fucking infuriating. I don't care if its not realistic, I don't want to get beat down every 5 seconds while being chased.
Why didn't they just take the ArmA 3 anims and edit them a little, the current animations look.... ehh..... EDIT: actually if the anims would have some better transitions between them I would like it more
damn the animations do not look well
this is a direct result of people wanting to remove clunky movement ARMA2 ties player action timing with animations so that movement generally takes time, is well paced and correct transitions occur, if you drop those transition animations (which would lock you in place for shit), you get the weird transitionless animation jumping that happens here that said, a lot of the animations themselves look pretty shoddy, they seem sped up too much - its as if they're trying to artificially speed up the gameplay its a shame they can't [easily] move over ARMA3 changes like the animation system, but its a small price to pay compared to if they actually used the ARMA3 engine as a base (which people seem to think would be a good idea - the engine is changing weekly and the DayZ team have to strip out the majority of the engines guts, the only way a DayZ standalone on ARMA3's engine would happen is well after ARMA3 is completed and patched up) that leaping attack really needs to have its animation changed up, or have its chance dropped right down
"rocket" science
extremely terrible I thought they'd be doing a little better than this
better information and interview, doesn't show much gameplay though, qq don't think they should really have come by E3, they've done a hell of a lot of amazing work essentially re-writing the arma 2 engine for DayZ, but people coming to E3 and watching these kinds of E3 gameplay demos are more after seeing some amazing looking gameplay I can understand why those kinds of people are finding it underwhelming, the game isn't really at the state right now where it'll appeal to them, they're just going to have to wait for the more uh... "impressive" stuff to be implemented personally though its a real encouraging sight, looks like the vast portion of the groundwork is in place, plenty of work to go but so far so good, looks like a stable base
That's a huge amount of progress. I'm impressed. It's still nowhere near finished, but what they have so far is great.
It looks just as bad as the Arma II mod. Why did they re-use the god awful Arma II engine
The zombies still have ways to go according to Rocket. The hit detection and animations are far from finished. The leaping was literally added the day before E3. It's an alpha folks. You can complain when the dev says it's done when it isn't. And right now they say it isn't done. Normally you wouldn't even get to see games in this stage of development. The worst thing that could happen, is that everyone buys DayZ on release day and it all falls over. The best way to counter the criticism is for us to deliver a good game that solves the issues. So I'd ask people to keep calm when the same thing gets posted again and again. Rather than saying "it's alpha" (or more correctly, "it's pre-alpha"), it might just be better to say "then it's a good reason not to buy the alpha". I like this for many reasons: * It lowers the sales on release, giving us a soft release where - as the game gets better - more people feel compelled to play. As they see us fixing bugs that they thought would not be. * It keeps us, as developers, motivated to actually fix these bugs to increase the perception of the game, and increase the sales. * Hell, I/boehmia make more money from beta/retail sales anyway. So fuck it, if people aren't happy now then don't buy it until Beta/Retail and I go buy that damned lambo. We're taking a very different approach to traditional titles, nobody ever really shows a pre-alpha unscripted build at E3. So we can expect some heat, it's okay. What we do now is fix the issues and deliver a good game, that's the best thing we can do.

jesus christ it looks horrible and they've still got the thing where you get hit by zombies when they're nowhere near you, and that was on a singleplayer build
Keep in mind that the base Arma games don't have melee. I'm sure it'll take quite a bit of time to refine realistic combat with the walkers.
So everyone complaining right now and saying they won't buy the alpha: good, that way they won't get swamped during the initial release. They'll convince you later.

How are you supposed to not get swamped by zombies? Day Z was only survivable through the run into a building glitch where they slow down. I also want a way to keep cars, I hated leaving them on servers because my favorite servers kept going down and they would undoubtedly be stolen when I came back from sleeping. At least if I got shot while in the car it was my fault I lost it, I can't help that I have to sleep.
why the fuck would they use times new roman as a font for the UI stuff it looks so shit
I hope zombies still clip through walls and doors that's my favorite feature
Left ear. Ow. How the fuck is this even an issue? Do some people go "WHOOPS DRAGGED THE AUDIO LEVELS TO THE LEFT, CAN'T FIX IT" when making their videos?
I hate when uploaders do this. Anyone know why this happens? Is it because they upload it in Mono?
Considering how DayZ is right now, it is a big improvement. Compared to our expectations though, it still doesn't quite meet them.
