'I paid nothing... It was amazing': Shameless actress Emmy Rossum boasts on US television how she got ill in Britain and was given free healthcare http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2538617/I-paid-It-amazing-Shameless-actress-Emmy-Rossum-boasts-US-television-got-ill-Britain-given-free-healthcare.html
Now imagine the same thing in the US, just requires a slight tax hike and for all conservative farts to kick the bucket.
I knew it was DM before i clicked :v:
And all this time Americans keep joking about going to Canada for better health care :v:

I was going to be charged $1000 to see an ER doctor (this was in Quebec, no idea how it is in the other provinces).
She's not a health tourist if she's working in the UK before she got sick lmao
Really, I don't see how this isn't easily able to be interpreted as a compliment to the UK. "Hey you have a better system of treating the sick. And it is easy for anyone to use! " She got sick in another country and got treated there at that countries discretion, compliments it, and get called out as an asshole of sorts, what.
My great-aunt moved from California to here, just because how expensive healthcare in the US is.
The Daily Mail are mad because she's rich and can afford private healthcare, but used the NHS for free which is funded by the tax payer
I know, I was just saying that it takes a special kind of asshole to call someone out for a compliment.
I don't see what the issue is. Anyway, if I were to go to America and got ill would travel insurance or whatever cover it or would I have to pay one of those stupid expensive bills I've seen?
I know, I was just saying that it takes a special kind of asshole to call someone out for a compliment.
I suppose it's akin to a Kennedy going into a soup kitchen for dinner and complimenting the food. But even then, I don't see how it's that big of a deal.
I actually read the article before judging the daily mail for once, it actually wasn't that bad.
all conservative farts to kick the bucket.
No thanks
No thanks
It's pretty much been proven over and over that the US equivalent of Conservatives are what's holding the country back. Gay marriage? nope. Rights for anyone else than white people? forget about it. Women are equal to men? HAH!! Social healthcare and benefits? wtf commie scum...

But even then, I don't see how it's that big of a deal.
I wouldn't really say it's equivalent to that. I mean, the vast majority of people in the UK use the NHS unless they've got a considerably larger-than-average amount of money. Free healthcare is by no means the 'emergency' route, it's more that private healthcare seems to be the 'hey, I've got the cash, may as well make sure I get some quicker service' route. I don't know anybody who's private, even people who have a fair bit of cash.
Despite what people think (and despite the fact I don't want conservatives in power), they do have specific reasons for the policies they support, and that they aren't inherently evil.
That, and the Conservative party in the UK are still very left of the Democrats in the US.

One guy once got charged $3000 for a ride in an ambulance, so it is pretty fucking bullshit over there.
That, and the Conservative party in the UK are still very left of the Democrats in the US.
I don't think its much about politics. Its about where their interests lie and their interests lie in their various investments in the private sector.

Calling an ambulance and being admitted to the emergency room costs about $4500 before you even see a doctor.

Although the NHS doesn't discriminate and she has every right to use it, many would say it's unfair.
The amount of stereotyping in this thread is horrendous. In other news: I don't see why this is news in any regard other than she could have easily paid for this herself...

Instead, you actually see why some people should pay more taxes than others. Because they can afford it.

How can they do that whilst paying tax? That's a terrible comparison.
