Muse face legal action in Australia and could be banned from the country for five years after lighting up during a concert in Melbourne.
Bassist Christopher Wolstenholme smoked several cigarettes during the gig at the Ron Laver Arena on 14 December, say reports. He apparently initially tried to hide his actions by only puffing when dry ice fog rolled over the stage, but by the end was smoking freely between songs.
A spokewoman for the venue said Muse were warned before the gig not to light up. “Officials spoke to the band before and after the show and we were extremely disappointed when they decided to flaunt our strict no-smoking policy,” Jo Juler said. “They are known as an anti-establishment style of performance group, but it was still sad that they decided to go ahead regardless.”
Officials were also angry that Matt Bellamy encouraged fans to “mosh out” during the set, a direct violation of the venue’s strict rules. Moshing is banned in the country following the death of a teenage girl during Limp Bizkit’sset at the Big Day Out festival in 2001.
A local gig promoter told The Sun that the band now faced a potential five-year ban: “These guys will never be allowed to perform again in Australia if they try it again. Doesn't matter how hot they are. The law is the law. Promoters won't get insurance for them – simple as that.”
Well that's a bit ridiculous. Chris was lighting up all night in Perth yesterday.
And I'm pretty sure half of the country would be in prison is moshing was illegal.
good.
Three letters: L O L
Jesus, some of my countrymen really have quite large poles up their arses, apparently.
No moshing because 1 girl died? banned from a country for smoking?
Fuck Australia.
So they banned him for smoking?
That's pretty weak.

bahahahaahha
Is it wrong that I like Muse? Don't care of this, though :|
MUSE?

They made ONE album called the Resistance, now they're an " anti-establishment " group, what the hell.
Dude, he was SMOKING on stage!
How much more anti-establishment can you GET?!?!?
FIGHT THE POWER!!
Who the fuck smokes on stage anyway, stupid band did stupid action. Good that they are banned. They suck anyway.

No it's not, there's just a hate bandwagon for people who haven't heard anything besides Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia.
I read the title as Guess what... Australia bans Music.

ugh please
believe it or not, it's very possible for people to genuinely not enjoy muse
and it annoys me when i see it become related to radiohead
big difference between muse and radiohead, one being radiohead isn't a carbon copy of the queen songs that not even queen liked
No moshing because 1 girl died? banned from a country for smoking?
Fuck Australia.
Moshing isn't banned..

Where the fuck did Radiohead come into this? You say "it annoys me when i see it become related to radiohead" then suddenly you go off comparing Muse to Radiohead. Real fucking smart.
i dont know what to think, on one hand they broke the law, on the other it makes my country look like a little cry baby
Slightly related, my friend told be that I was only a good bassist if I could play one of his easy as fuck bass solos.
Muse is lame anyway.
look we covered opera on our albums, how progressive of us to dig up really old pieces to show off how well versed we are in tri-tone harmonies and minor submediant degrees

is your friend Welsh?

well yeah
i'm saying i don't see the comparison
though looking at your last.fm you have 700 plays of muse so it's pretty obvious what your angle is
i have like ~600 of radiohead but that's okay because i don't need to be ashamed by it
why did I move away damn it
is your friend Welsh?
He lives in Wales now.

I go to gigs regularly and I went to soundwave, trust me, moshing isn't banned.
