They are pressing criminal charges against two real-estate companies blamed for tearing down the structure, which was 6m (20-ft) high. An archaeologist said those responsible had committed "irreparable damage". Rafael Varon, deputy minister of cultural patrimony, said the destruction had taken place over the weekend. He said company workers using heavy machinery had attempted to destroy three further pyramids, but had been stopped by onlookers.
Im surprised the workers even did it.
What? WHAT?! I know there are words to describe the companies, but I can't find it in my head.
Wow this is disappointing.
These two companies should be fucking booted out of the fucking market. They just robbed humankind of not only unsolved mysteries, but also a piece of irresplaceable world history.

4000years in gaol sounds fair.
It really annoys me when things like this happen. They just destroyed something irreplaceable for no reason.
how ignorant can you get
Wow. I have no words.

I don't see any reason as to why we should preserve all the pyramids. Unless of course you want to keep it as a remembrance to those thousands of slaves who put their lives into building it, under the command of some crazy-ass Pharaoh, which is very thoughtful.

Its a architectural marvel of a once great civilization that lasted for an incredible amount of time. Also this was in Peru, there was no "Pharaoh"

I see nothing wrong with this, it's more beneficial in the long run then keeping a bunch of useless junk around just because it's old. I know i'm going to get ALOT of boxes for this but there's no reason to keep it except imaginary value to it's old history.
except you know, study the buildings to learn more about the civilization they're also a tourist attraction
"This guys were here 4 thousands of heres ago and made a pretty pyramid. It's has the same value as some teenager making a "Joe was herez" graffiti after thousands of years later Well I'll give you a point for the tourist attractions.
except you know, study the buildings to learn more about the civilization they're also a tourist attraction
Learn what? We already know how to make tools and build walls.
Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost.
Learn what? We already know how to make tools and build walls.
about their culture, their history and how their civilization was structured
how on earth did the ruins not register as "do not fuck up" in the workers heads how did it not register as "tell workers to not fuck it up" in whoever authorized the construction i just dont understand

Wasn't there a story about ruins being destroyed in South America like a month back? [sp]Also: I'm astounded at how many dumb posters came out of the woodwork and revealed they don't give a shit about this.[/sp]
These pyramids have no value other then the value you put in it. I would say some old historical things are important and useful but a bunch of old ass bricks laying around are not. If we could learn some secret form of construction sure. But these are just bricks belonging to some dead tribesmen, you guys are getting worked up only because it's OLD. Yeah, 4,000 years old is a big deal

They should be required to give up land and pay huge fines.
