Another day, another torrent site shut down. People visiting [del]Demonoid[/del] [del]bitGamer[/del] [del]undergroundGamer[/del] were greeted with the following image replacing the front page:

Apparently, this is not a joke or a temporary closure either, as a staff member on the IRC said the following:
[quote]Yes the site is closed forever. No we don't know anything about UG. No we don't know where you can go now. Yes #GazelleGames is an open channel. BCG is currently not accepting refugees from GGn. We're sorry.[/quote]
This year has seen the closure of almost all of the major private torrent sites offering games. Demonoid was raided by Ukranian authorities as a 'gift' to the US, bitGamer and undergroundGamer preemptively shut down (bG permanently) to avoid legal action, and now the site most of the refugees fled to is gone too. There are also rumors floating around that Blackcat Games, the last decent private tracker, and the most exclusive, will be shutting down this week as well, but so far they are only rumors, and can't be confirmed.
It's worth noting that if you donated recently, you can request a refund, otherwise the remaining money will be donated to the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
WHAT THE FUCK NOT AGAIN
Why does this keep happening :(
digitalhive is still kickin

rip demonoid for like the 25th time
That font is hard to read.
I want to feel bad about this but I never really used my account on there. It does suck though, I hope the bigger trackers don't follow.
Well this really blows.
Your turn, Blackcats

Actually, Demonoid is 'back', but no one sure if it's legit yet or if it's a honeypot or an attempt to farm login data that can be used to hack other accounts.

The new demonoid was confirmed to be a honeypot. The site hosted malicious data (mainly malware), and most of the people that signed up supposedly had their computers infected.
Anyone with half a brain would have realized it was a honeypot from a mile and a half away.
I JUST SIGNED UP YESTERDAY, SERIOUSLY?

I didn't. I just got the email one day and ignored it. What were the signs that were so obvious that I missed?
The guy running it has nothing to do with the old Demonoid staff, and allegedly obtained the database through illegitimate means.
this is quite sad because I spent a lot of time in IRC and knew a lot of the folks there by name. Fuck, I feel like crying :(
What was Gazelle Games anyway? Never heard of it. Used to use Blackcats but I forgot my stupid login code for their fakey website front and never managed to regain access ever since... that was a moronic system to put in place.
The biggest downside to this is that it shows the big companies who are attacking these sites that their constant attempts are actually starting to work, which means more interference, and even more shutdowns. It's easy to talk tough but when you're staring down the face of a potential raid and/or lawsuit, sometimes you just have to bail out before it gets too bad.
Makes me sad seeing all these closures.

Well the site seems to be doing its job just fine. I don't know why anyone would be worried about it unless they use the same password everywhere.
I got banned (I think it was a temporary ban though) probably a month and a half ago. Sad to see them go as private trackers are now diminishing.
So long as isohunt doesn't go anywhere we're fine
[QUOTE=Chaoss86;40920303]So long as isohunt doesn't go anywhere we're fine[/QUOTE]
Isohunt/TPB/Whatever just can't compare to a private tracker with targeted content.
Well, I still have BCG but the community is ass
Not to mention no one seeds as there are no consequences for not doing so, so your speeds are almost always less than 10% of your line speed, there are virtually no 'quality control' measures in place (meaning anyone can upload malware infested files or worthless uploads), and the 'community' is full of the spoiled little 12 year olds that couldn't get into sites like GGn and go 'GUISE HOW I OPEN .r00 FIELS HELP PLEASE MY EMAIL IS HERE' or 'FUCK U UPLOADER YOUR FILE DOESN'T WORK ALL I GOT WAS A BIN AND CUE FILE I REPORT U >:('. There's no sense of community or any sort of goodwill towards your fellow users.
If BCG goes down, that's it, all of the private game-focused trackers are gone. And you can bet the remaining private trackers, regardless of what they offer, are going to shut the doors to new users for a long time to come, if only to make themselves feel 'safer'.
How come it's mostly just the game oriented ones?
I am a sad panda.

Chilling effect, mostly. EA spooked uG, GGn seems to have chickened out in reaction to uG closing (meaning they didn't hear the news that uG's closure might only be temporary) and as I said in the OP, there are rumors that Blackcats might be bowing out too.
In any case, get your distros while you still can.
I really miss demonoid. My life is worthless without it.
:suicide:
fuck

Sad day
So what exactly is Gazelle Games? What service did they offer? Just curious because I don't know.

private torrent community that provided games
so they offered entertainment

I didn't either and I didn't even receive any email.
Everyone just flipped the fuck out and reddit got paranoid after their ad service was putting shady ads on the page and the host pulled them down for it.
