Dem Dozen Threatens to Bail on Health Care Over Abortion Language
Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak said Thursday he's counted 11 Democratic lawmakers in addition to himself who are willing to kill President Obama's health care overhaul over abortion language.
Stupak sponsored a provision in the House of Representatives' health care bill, which passed last fall, that clearly prohibits the use of federal money to pay for abortions. That language did not make it into the Senate bill, the model Obama is using to craft the plan he is expected to send to Congress shortly.
"We're not gonna vote for this bill with that kind of language in there," Stupak said Thursday in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
"I want to see health care, but we're not gonna bypass some principles and belief that we feel strongly about," he said, adding that he's "prepared to take responsibility" for bringing down the bill.
President Obama is hoping the legislation will pass in the House by March 18, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday.
This is neither opinion nor blog.
Oh for god's sake.
I wonder how much money they took from lobbyists to start "feeling strongly" NOW of all times.
Their opinions are wrong.
lets go michigan, kill the health care bill that would help our state!
Looks like they're ready to abort that bill.
God damn, how many times does abortion have to come up over this stupid thing?
Looks like they're ready to abort that bill.
But not with funding from the state.
Fucking hell we're never gonna get anywhere with this.
Waiting for FPers to come in this thread and blame the Republicans.
Oh wait.
Waiting for you to get banned
Oh wait
Looks like they're ready to abort that bill.
:golfclap:
Why are they so anti-abortion? It's not like stopping free abortions is going to stop abortions, it just means more people will die from crappy abortions

Do you think the religious lobby actually uses logic?
Come to Canada and "borrow" someone's health card if you want a free abortion.
Abort bill please.
I understand it goes against their beliefs, but shouldn't it be the woman's choice? If it goes against their beliefs, than why are they trying to stop EVERYONE from doing it? It just confuses me.

Because religious people get massive hard-ons from forcing their beliefs onto others.
Abortion NEEDS to be a choice. What happens if a woman gets raped and impregnated? Her life could be fucked up without an abortion, yet idiots like these care more about the lives of a fucking fetus that can't think or do anything.

The woman should marry her rapist because if she wasn't such a slutty temptress she wouldn't have gotten raped in the first place praise jesus
It's just a backdoor way to make sure only rich people can have abortions. We already know the Family is pulling Stupack's leash, I wonder how many of the others are under their influance.
Anyway, this is idiotic, they need to stop using this bill to advance their own positions on abortion. Leave that for another debate.
Shit like this pisses me off. Let people do as they god damn please and stop dictating what the fuck they can do about abortion. God damn politics.

this statement is funny.
Fuckin Democrats should be the ones supporting abortion. Just proves that religion fucks with the minds of people on both sides of the spectrum.

stop telling people what they should or shouldnt do if you want to fix it you become a politician other than that deal w/i
I don't get why they're flapping about it, Britain offers abortions on the NHS, why can't America?
Why the hell did they decide to tackle the medical issue when the nation is still in the midst of an economic crisis?
On top of that why are they trying to solve the "affordability" of health care though having the gov pay for it instead of tackling the major problem of why it costs so much in the first place. Why does a bandage cost $50 at a hospital? Why are ambulance rides $1500+? Why do some widely used medications cost 3 times more than they really should?
It's just a backdoor way to make sure only rich people can have abortions.
Why on earth would they, whoever they are, only want rich people having abortions?
Edit:
:tinfoil:
Good, abortions shouldn't be paid for by the government except special cases. That should be an out of pocket procedure unless it is a life-threatening situation. Pay for contraception, but not abortions.

There's already a ban on federal funding of abortions, and there's already language in the bill that prevents subsidies from being used to purchase insurance that covers abortions. What Stupack is trying to do is ban any and all insurance plans that cover abortion from being sold on the insurance exchange. It's not about federal funding, it's about carrying out a de facto ban on abortion for anyone poor enough to need insurance to cover it.
So 12 Blue Dog House Dems out of ~315 (less than 4%) think that they're going to kill the health bill?
Ha-ha.

All I can say on the matter.
