• Catholic Chris Christie Criticizes Pope in Communist Cuba
Chris Christie is Catholic, but he's breaking with Pope Francis over whether to deepen U.S. diplomatic ties with Cuba. "I just think the Pope is wrong," the New Jersey governor and Republican presidential candidate said Sunday in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union." "The fact is that his infallibility is on religious matters, not on political ones," Christie said.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/20/politics/chris-christie-pope-francis-cuba/index.html
"God said to deepen ties with cuba" Do it Frank
But the political matters are tied into his religious responsibilities: being open and friendly -- especially as "Christian nations" in the eyes of the Pope.
That alliteration, though.
"The fact is that his infallibility is on religious matters, not on political ones"
lol
"And the fact is that for me, I just believe that when you have a government that is harboring fugitives"
Quite a few of those cuban exiles were probably mobsters, military government loyalists and criminals...
That alliteration, though.
If only he were a cardinal :eng101:
If only he were a cardinal :eng101:
Another Rodrigo Borgia in the making
he isn't infallible in religious or political matters but its quite dumb to think they are not both closely intertwined
in the catholic faith the pope is infallible regardless iirc
in the catholic faith the pope is infallible regardless iirc
He's essentially Jesus's representative on Earth, so anything he says is assumed to be what Jesus would say. The pope is literally WWJD
He's essentially Jesus's representative on Earth, so anything he says is assumed to be what Jesus would say. The pope is literally WWJD
Well obviously he'd take the wheel.
This is coming from the guy who doesn't think states should have the right to legalize marijuana, Christie is an idiot

The pope is literally WWJD
It's nowhere near that simple, guys. Assuming that every word from the Pope is bound as Catholic law is factually incorrect. Basically, there's very specific criteria when it comes to declaring papal infallibility. Comments, opinions, and even encyclicals are rarely actual expressions of infallibility. When something is definitively declared infallible, then it's almost exclusively about very religious matters like dogma or heresies. It's an extremely rare thing to declare infallibility. The Pope doesn't exactly walk down the street and hand out moral law like candy.
If only he were a cardinal :eng101:
Chief Catholic.
This is coming from the guy who doesn't think states should have the right to legalize marijuana, Christie is an idiot
What the hell does that have to do with this
What the hell does that have to do with this
He shouldn't be running for the republican nomination if he believes in bigger government, most of his beliefs are ridiculous
He shouldn't be running for the republican nomination if he believes in bigger government, most of his beliefs are ridiculous
The majority of republicans are in general against the legalization of marijuana regardless...
The majority of republicans are in general against the legalization of marijuana regardless...
The majority of Republicans support the states right to decide for themselves
What the hell does that have to do with this
If there's anything the internet has taught me, it's that all political issues pale in comparison to weed legalisation. It seems kind of sad that the only thing that people can band together on enough to make a difference seems to be their right to get high.

How much money is spent keeping non violent offenders in a jail system that spits them out as unemployable criminals? Weed legalization seems like nothing to some people but if you thought about it for a minute you'd realize how fucking massive it really would be

Looks like the Pope isn't the one stuck in the cold war. Honestly our problems with Cuba have gone on way too long.
It's not that it's not an important issue, it's that it seems to be the only one that people see to make any sort of concentrated effort to focus on.
50 years of no progress of any kind and then suddenly we get some? Yeah I can imagine that's a reason people care
in the catholic faith the pope is infallible regardless iirc
On paper. As a former Catholic myself, I can tell you that most catholics don't adhere to the finer points of the faith any more closely than Protestants adhere to Leviticus.
With China expanding its military in Asia, the middle East being a smoking hellhole, and Russia trying to carve up eastern Europe, as well as several south american countries being on the verge of collapse right now, Cuba looks pretty damn stable and they don't want to destroy America or even drastically oppose American views, give it another 20 years and the Castro's will be all gone and Cuba will be a socialist republic I mean seriously, there's bad history but if any country deserves a reset its Cuba [editline]21st September 2015[/editline] They still need to work on things but they're not outright evil at least not compared to everybody else in the world today

Like, who are the good guys?
give it another 20 years and the Castro's will be all gone and Cuba will be a socialist republic
Actually Cuba has been introducing gradual market reforms ever since the USSR collapsed. With increasing American business and the end of the embargo, foreign investment is going to rise a lot and the country is most likely going to largely abandon socialism.
Christie must really like alienating massive groups of voters. 1. Latin Americans (whose votes the GOP will need in the coming years) could view this as Republicans being prejudiced against Hispanic people. 2. Catholics don't think highly of anybody who is criticizes one of the most admired people in the world for bullshit reasons. Would you like to make a comment on the incident in Fergusson? Might I suggest saying something to piss off the elderly?
Christie is Catholic :v:
I know that, i'm saying it's still a stupid reason.
