• How come villains always look more aweome than heroes?

Since this thing turned out pretty well, I decided to make a megathread: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=985974 I've realised that latley, the fictionalevil people always look more badass, what's the deal with that? Like for example: I mean, look at them, apearently being some guy with a flamethrower in his umbrella is worse morales than living with an underaged boy inside of a cave, I mean, compare them to this guy for example: I mean, really, he's got the mask, and the helmet and that giant cape. Not to mention that awesome respirator. That's way more cool than being some inventor in a spandex outfit. Here's a few other examples: ^ Generic evil looking "knight". ^ Generic nice looking "knight". ^ Evil kind of robber. ^ Good kind of robber. ^ Bad kind of psychopath. ^ Good kind of psycopath (What? He's harmless) And, I mean, this can just go on forever: I know there will always be exceptions, but in general it seems like the good guy is normally squeaky clean and always so stereotypically silly looking. Whilst villains throughout our days are always creative and intimidating in new ways. They always have some special perk or ability, or perhaps even execution signature. Whilst the superheroes/regular heroes always have the same crap. Weather it's kicking, punching, flying, being bulletproof or some kind of adjective that can also be found in their name after "man", it seems like heroes could use a nice overhaul. I mean, did someone put a big discount to good people at "All things tight-fitting", or did the hero academy only have matial arts, firearms and adjectives as the leading subjects? I mean, I don't praise evil or anything, but purley image-wise, isn't the dark side more epic in general? A villain always seem to have a sense of originality, whilst alot of heroes are just cliches of one another. I dunno, maybe this is a shitstorm brewing up, but, what to you think, Facepunch? Also, alot of people wanted me to add a sidenote: A hero isn't the same as an anti-hero, someone who may be a protagonist, and may do something good, but normally does it for some kind of personal agenda. Such as people looking to gain something or people seeking revenge. They often do it with a justified renegade approach, breaking laws and morales for the sake of accomplishment. (Correct me if this definition is wrong)
Because the villian is supposed to be impressive, imposing and menacing and the hero someone you can relate to on an individual level.
If you read the OP, you'd see I included a "There will always be exceptions, of course, but in general... Etc..."
the truth is, there is something about bad guys, they're allowed to break the rules and go completely psychotic, which makes them awesome !
Thats his evil form.
Now hold on right there, that's a pic from Warrior Within. THIS is him being bad: Yes I am a PoP fanboy and proud of it [editline]01:59PM[/editline] New game sucked though
Robin is a BADASS!
Yeah, a boy in latex and underwear totally looks cool.
Yes I am a PoP fanboy and proud of it [editline]01:59PM[/editline] New game sucked though
anyway, i don't know if we can consider this guy good or bad: badass either way
anyway, i don't know if we can consider this guy good or bad: badass either way
Yup, allthough he was pretty bad. GTA has always been about being the badguy, no matter how many underaged consolejunkies out there who tries to justify things to their overprotective parents.

They also have the best songs in Disney movies
In fact the prince of persia is a major exception to this rule because the prince was badass whether he was the dark prince or not. Proof:
what about these guys ??
what about these guys ??
Hitmen are badguys. No matter if they're protagonists or not. :eng101: Still, adding to OP.
what about these guys ?? Juuuuuuuules Veeeeeeeega
They're bad guys who just happen to be protagonists.
he was a sissy in the sands of time
True, but by warrior within he was the prince we know and love.
egg plant wizard begs to differ
Oh, come on OP. That was a cheap shot on Robin Hood. The latest Robin Hood is definitely a badass. Not only that, but anyone who can fire 3 arrows at once is badass.
Whoa hey now, Gordon Freeman is definitely more of a badass than Dr. Breen ever will be.

And I prefer the original Robin Hood, first British person I've ever seen that looks so French. [editline]01:00AM[/editline]
Whoa hey now, Gordon Freeman is definitely more of a badass than Dr. Breen ever will be.
We don't know that, since in either of the games he's shown slightest hints of a personality. His entire "personality" is built on the notions of fanboys.
