:siren: PLEASE DO NOT START A FLAME WAR; THIS THREAD IS MERELY FOR OUR THOUGHTS ON EXISTENCE :siren:
Ok, so sometimes I'd be sitting in class with nothing to do. Besides the thoughts on the cute girls in my multiple classes (and as fate would have it, I sit next to them) I also think about existence. No, not how the world was created, et cetera; these thoughts are about how the world as we perceive it exists and these strangely and awesomely detach myself from the world, more than any MP3 player and noise-canceling earbuds could do.
These are questions I find myself thinking:

Do we really exist?

Are we just a pawn of some higher power or are we a part of some perverted computer game?

How come I view the world through my eyes, not detached from my body (similar to a third-person game)?
Think about it. We could not exist. We could be controlled by some sort of God (think "the Sims"). We could be a part of some experiment on how animals can survive on its own. After all, we are animals, just a highly advanced type.
It's a strange thing. It bedazzles me to think about this but I will on this note: whatever your opinions are, you may have thought this at least once before. Feel free to discuss, debate, whatever, just remember:
:siren: PLEASE KEEP ALL RELIGIOUS-BASED FLAME WARS OUT OF THIS. :siren:
No matter how much you try to keep it out, there will be a flame war.
I think that our existence is too complex for us to comprehend. We will probably never know, and if we do find out, it won't be for a long time...
1yes
2no
3 i thought about this when i was 4 and then i thought because i have eyes in the front of my head and i should stop playing so many videogames
I honestly don't see how that can be: existence and belief in something outrageous are two different things.
Please keep on the general topic though.
humans are what happens when you leave buggy undocumented code running for billions of years

Because your retinas are inside your head, and not 6 feet behind you.
Most people (by most I mean people that are educated and don't smoke err day and drink err day).
Have had the same thoughts as you, and I often will lay on my bed and just think.

Because the way you see things is through your eyes, which happen to be on your head, not floating in space behind you.

Rated informative.
But think of it through your perspective. Don't think about the obvious. We all must view ourselves as of high importance because you just see through your eyes, not someone else's.
Odd concept.
my thoughts on existence is that something happened probably by one of the theorys we have about how the universe was created, then the laws of physics did there thing and now im here typing on facepunch when i could be hanging with my friends, as you can see its not that hard and making philosophical things about the universe is pointless

You can't really answer why we exist. We are here because we evolved to what we are now. It's probable that life came to earth from asteroids. Our entire existence is thanks to a chance asteroid hit at the precise time in earth's own evolution that was fit for the completely random genetic material that was on that completely chance asteroid to spread out and develop into microbial life.
Just think of your life as an FPS.
Except the gameplay is shit.

Of course we exist, we're able to perceive ourselves and reality. If we didn't exist, that wouldn't be possible. If you say "well herp da derp we might live in a computer simulation", it doesn't matter, we know we exist because we have self-awareness.
I am the meaning of life.
and existence.
I think we are on an extremely unbelievablely small scale like out entire universe and many, many others are inside of a giant marble compared to the creatures that are around that we cannot possibly see unless we looked through the opposite of binoculars multiplied by about 1.99999999999x10to the 180,000,000,000,000,000,000,000...... but thats because Im a moron

Well to do that you'd need to have some kind of freak out-of-body experience and hijack someones eyes.
you must be joking about number three. you cannot possibly be serious.

i thought all the same thing you did op at some point and like i said, the reason why we have eyes in are head is because its most useful and philosophy is many times useless to this

Do we really exist?
you can be measured, so yes

until I see people noclipping or I get a toolgun that's a no

Completely agree. See, my thoughts are that we are here for some indiscernible reason; what that is, we don't know. Is it to go to colonize other planets? To be a significant in a vast land of nothingness? Thinking of this makes my brain hurt but keeps me intrigued as well.
We could go on and on about this; which I see happening.
No matter what you believe, there will always be something behind that also
1) God [if he exists, what created him, what created that, and so on]
2) Big Bang [what caused all that nothing to just suddenly explode and make everything]
Existance is a mindfuck, we might find out whats what when we die

well the building blocks were on earth so its not like some very precise had to start it

What would make you even consider this? It's just a nonsensical question.

This is most likely a double post but I have thought this before. To bring a little comedy to the table, I thought I was the "chosen one" for a time. :v:
....not that funny? Well, it's possibly a common thought. It sounds dumb but you have to consider this sometimes.
I would make a terrible philosopher.

@ HazardFox: Existence as a whole is a mindfuck, but somebody has to make a thread on an Internet forum wondering out loud why it is.

are you know, use science to see the best most likely way of how it happened

Our existence has no reason. We're a collection of carbon on a fraction of a rock flying through space in a massive sea of other rocks.
