'There is not a parallel in contemporary Canadian history,' NDP House leader says following Commons uproar

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was accused of "manhandling" Opposition whip Gord Brown and elbowing NDP MP Ruth Ellen Brosseau in the House of Commons as MPs gathered for a vote on the government's assisted-dying bill Wednesday afternoon.
In video from the House, Trudeau is seen walking toward Brown in a crowd of MPs in the Commons aisle, taking his arm in an apparent effort to move Brown toward his seat. While doing so, he encountered Brosseau, who was also standing in the aisle and was seen physically reacting after the contact.
NDP House leader Peter Julian accused Trudeau of "manhandling" Brown, as MPs on all sides of the House shouted and Speaker Geoff Regan struggled to regain order.
NDP MP Tracey Ramsey said the prime minister swore as he approached Brown and the opposition benches. "He said 'Get the bleep out of the way,'" she said, adding Trudeau "violently" grabbed Brown

Sources told CBC News that Trudeau used the F-word — a profane utterance that decades earlier landed his father, Pierre Trudeau, in hot water in the same House of Commons.
But it was Trudeau's actions that provoked the most concern and anger from opposition benches.

The prime minister later said he felt Brown was walking too slowly ahead of the vote.
After the incident, the prime minister again crossed the floor and engaged in a loud and heated conversation with NDP Leader Tom Mulcair.
"What kind of man elbows a woman? It's pathetic! You're pathetic!" Mulcair can be heard on tape shouting at Trudeau.
An emotional Brosseau said later in the House that she had been "elbowed in the chest by the prime minister," bringing Trudeau to his feet once again to "apologize unreservedly."
Brosseau said she was so upset from the incident that she had to leave the chamber, subsequently missing the vote.
Her NDP MP colleague Niki Ashton said she was deeply troubled by Trudeau's actions.
"I am ashamed to be a witness to the person who holds the highest position in our country do such an act. I want to say that for all of us who witnessed this, this was deeply traumatic. What I will say, if we apply a gendered lens, it is very important that young women in this space feel safe to come here and work here," she said.
"He made us feel unsafe and we're deeply troubled by the conduct of the prime minister of this country."

And I thought soccer players overreacted
This ordeal is a waste of time for everyone involved, why can't they behave like grown-ups.
Where is the grabbing in that video?
Where is the grabbing in that video?
about 0:40. he grabs the dude and you can see the woman kinda recoil. honestly looks like he accidentally elbowed her in the chest.
Angry Tom should calm down a bit.
Where is the grabbing in that video?
:35 is where Trudeau beings to walk down the isle and grabs Gord Brown and pulls him away.
I don't know regarding the elbowing but grabbing and pulling away MPs is a pretty big fucking no no.
Sources told CBC News that Trudeau used the F-word — a profane utterance that decades earlier landed his father, Pierre Trudeau, in hot water in the same House of Commons.
Are they sure they both used the F-word and not 'Fuddle Duddle?'
this is the most canadian political scandal that could ever happen
what next, sorrygate?
Where is the grabbing in that video?
Around 40-45 seconds
late asf
I wish this kinda shit went down in the US but our congress is a buncha pussies.
Who does the NDP think they'll impress here?
They block a Conservative politician from sitting down so our Liberal Prime Minister helps him sit by brushing the NDP MP out of the way. Now they're acting like he pulled out a shotgun and started massacring MPs. The hell?
Good grief...
At least Elizabeth May called the rest of the opposition on their bullshit. I'm not a huge fan of Trudeau but this is just pure manufactured outrage.

I fail to see how Trudeau walking up and pulling an MP out of the way is "manufactured outrage".
It's completely improper.
As an American who doesn't have a splinter of knowledge on the workings of parliament, why is this so bad? Why did he have the incentive to do this? Did he disrupt something that was going on between those MPs? I am very confused.

It would be like if Obama stepped across the floor to yank a senator back to their seat for taking too long.

Oh and before I am banned, yes, I read the article...

No it would be like of Obama moved someone who was physically preventing another politician from taking their seat in a deliberate attempt to disrupt the democratic process

It was more improper that these people were literally blocking someone just to get a laugh.
"What kind of man elbows a woman? It's pathetic! You're pathetic!" Mulcair can be heard on tape shouting at Trudeau.
And I almost voted for this NDP manchild. Probably just mad because most NDP voters jumped ship and voted for Liberal because he can't handle his own party.
Though tbh its a mid strange that Trudeau moved that guy, the elbowing thing was obviously an accident, but the moving itself is questionable. Though it could be compared to a high school bully blocking the bathroom, and then getting offended when a student forcefully moved the bully out of the way.
I'm surprised that him losing his cool is not more of an emphasis.
I like how the one dude doesn't know what to do and just bowing to everyone.
The elbowing was clearly an accident. He shouldn't have intervened like that, but the group of them are clearly standing in the way and are intentionally blocking the opposition. You can see them look back at him, yet they continue to stand in his way. They are waaaaaay overreacting. She felt that she was "unsafe" and had to leave the room? Puuuuhleeeeeeeeeeease. What a bunch of sissies. Jesus Christ.
So the NDP was being childish and blocking a Conservative MP so Trudeau went to help him through? At first I thought this would be like that time Rob Ford rammed into that councillor but this is just the NDP being dumb.
Clearly that elbowing is a sign of Trudeau's psychopathy, truly this is a villain that needs to be removed from office at once. Already his party is sending bruisers through the woods of Canada, viciously elbowing any hapless Canadians they come across and, worst of all, taking away the NDP's pacifiers.
Stuff like this really makes you realise what some people truly are like.

i can't possibly see how this might just be politically manufactured outrage
I think yes that people are blowing this out of proportion, but I still think Trudeau was in the wrong for even acting like this in the first place.
Politicians should always remain civil and never resort to physical contact (grabbing the guy in the first place).
Are they sure they both used the F-word and not 'Fuddle Duddle?'
Probably said "[sp]frig off[/sp]" or "[sp]frig you[/sp]"
Aww, it looks like Niki Ashton got triggered:
“I am ashamed, as somebody who sits in this House, to have been witness to the person who holds the highest position in our country, the highest elected position, to have done such an act in this House,” Ashton said.
She later weaponized Trudeau’s reputation as a supporter of women against him, saying he behaved in a way that’s the “furthest thing from a feminist act.”
"I have never seen anything like it. I witnessed the PM push one of my colleagues into my desk in the House of Commons. #disgusting"
Also, these are hilariously awful:

I love how all of these people claim to be such ardently progressive individuals and then when they want to stir up controversy, start pulling the "YOU HIT -A WOMAN-" card. Because women are such frail, fragile, defenceless little things, right? What a bunch of fucking hypocrites.
Good on you Trudeau. Way to show the world that you're working with a bunch of babies who have not yet been out in the real world.
I'm definitely not a fan of Trudeau and the Liberals at all, but I think everyone is just overreacting. Yes, he did something wrong and should have some kind of consequence, but to blow it up and say he assaulted someone is going too far.

I think Trudeau is just as much of a baby who hasn't been in the real world.

Oh shit, they're using feminism against him now. It's 2016 Trudeau!
