The U.N. Human Rights Council is likely to back a call by Japan and the European Union to set up a "Commission of Inquiry" later this month, meaning that the isolated Asian state will face much closer scrutiny. "It is nothing more than an instrument of political plot aimed at sabotaging our socialist system by defaming the dignified image of the DPRK and creating an atmosphere of international pressure under the pretext of 'human rights protection'," North Korea's Ambassador So Se Pyong told the Council. The likely establishment of a U.N. investigation follows a report by an independent expert, Indonesian lawyer Marzuki Darusman, identifying human rights violations including kidnapping of foreign nationals, torture, and a gulag system thought to hold up to 200,000 prisoners.
"You guys are making shit up. We treat our starving population just fine."
"Our people are perfectly happy being puppets & starving to death, no violations to see here"
"LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME" -North Korea, 2013
"What are you talking about? people regularly try to leave our country since they want to tell the rest of the world about how glorious it is!"
"hi guys whats up"
What if the UN was lying to us?
What if the UN was lying to us?
That'd certainly be fairly scary.
It looks like NK is seriously dissapointed by the lack of general public's appreciation of the success of their nuclear program. When I joked in another thread about there being no new day without new NK's statement, I wasn't aware it's going to get all literal.
What if the UN was lying to us?
Yeah I think that is the really scary thing nobody dares ever entertain. Lets just hope that is justified.
"LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME" -North Korea, 2013
Well in this case, they're saying the exact opposite. "I didn't do anything wrong, no one saw it."
Why are NK suddenly being so vocal? Under Il's regime they never made any announcements.
Why are NK suddenly being so vocal? Under Il's regime they never made any announcements.
Yeah, they just crash-landed their missile near Vladivostok once. I prefer their statements over that kind of events any day.
How funny would it be if North Korea was actually a wonderful place, and every thing we've heard to the contrary was actually just U.N. propaganda?
How funny would it be if North Korea was actually a wonderful place, and every thing we've heard to the contrary was actually just U.N. propaganda?
Well, we wouldn't be able to prove otherwise.
Well, we wouldn't be able to prove otherwise.
North Korea did have a tourist program. Unless the UN organized the tourist tours in NK and/or made it so tourist never really get to North Korea, it would be pretty hard to fake. Ever seen the "Inside North Korea" documentary? What human rights?
How funny would it be if North Korea was actually a wonderful place, and every thing we've heard to the contrary was actually just U.N. propaganda?
I think the closest possibility to that is that the UN lies, imposes sanctions, and puts words in NK's mouth. The starvation and the socialism is obviously true, but the possibility lies in the reason why. It could be (atleast as far as the current evidence is concerned) that NK is barely struggling to keep its political sovereignty amongst 'imperialist' advances of most of the western world. I mean another part of it that could fit with this is that that Basketball player came back completely convinced of KJU's niceness. But again this is only the most plausible version of what you said, I don't know, and I don't think we can ever know if the UN is lying or not. Not until VICE goes in and covers NK again.
our north korean values are under threat gentlemen!

(it is) Kim Jong-Un's level of effective control is something we can't objectively observe, so that's a different matter, and sanctioning a country for nuclear weapons testing is in principle wrong so long as other nations are permitted to do it. However, other than that, the north's rhetoric speaks for itself.
"You guys are making shit up. We treat our starving population just fine."
North Korea is proud to announce that they have only a single case of obesity, as compared to the epidemic of obesity in the imperialist West.
