• Thanks but no tanks: Trump's military parade will not include heavy vehicles
Donald Trump looks set to get the military parade he wants in Washington, on Veterans Day in November. But a Pentagon planning memo issued on Thursday and released on Friday said the parade being planned for 11 November will “include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure”. In other words, heavy tanks could tear up the streets of DC and will thus not be allowed to rumble past the president on his reviewing stand. The event will “include a heavy air component at the end of the parade”, the memo said, meaning lots of airplane flyovers. Older aircraft will be included as available. The memo did not include a cost estimate. The White House budget director recently told Congress the cost to taxpayers could be between $10m and $30m.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/mar/10/donald-trump-military-parade-tanks-pentagon-memo
Just ditch the parade, already. America waves its armed dick the whole year, no reason to waste taxpayers monry to cater to stupid wishes
If it doesn't have tanks then what's the point.

Alternatively, since we're already pulling a North Korea, just have one tank, then use photoshop to copy and paste it multiple times for the official [del]propaganda[/del] publicity shots.
Can't we just put a Vive on Trump's head and tell him he's going to see the parade instead.
Can't we just put a Vive on Trump's head and tell him he's going to see the parade instead.
Can we just put a plastic bag over his head and tell him it is a Vive?
well look at the bright side, there's a bigly chance that since this is just after the november elections that trump might just sit it out.
Weren't there people in the last thread saying that tanks shouldn't be a problem? Eh fuck it what does the Pentagon know.
There are so many other vehicles other than tanks they can use, I don't think it's much of a problem.
There are so many other vehicles other than tanks they can use, I don't think it's much of a problem.
Use Strykers and LAV's. People will call them tanks.
I can't believe you are actually going to have it I thought it was just a suggestion.
I can't believe you are actually going to have it I thought it was just a suggestion.
In Trump's defense (can't believe I just said that), many other first world countries that we are allied with have military parades as well.
I'm curious just how the President has the authority to do this, is it from his role as the Commander in Chief? Can the Pentagon theoretically refuse to do the parade?
Can we just put a plastic bag over his head and tell him it is a Vive?
advocating death?
I can't believe you are actually going to have it I thought it was just a suggestion.
I hate that it's going to happen On the other hand, if it does, I definitely will attempt to go see it.
Use Strykers and LAV's. People will call them tanks.
Yeah well you could have a parade of Lenco Bearcats and people would call them tanks.
The memo says it's going to occur in conjunction with the normal Veteran's Day parade in DC. Seems like a bit less of a big deal in that case
I'm fine with a military parade on Veterans day. The service men and women deserve more exposure. If you want to show off tanks couldn't they bus them in on trailers? Or trailer them in and park them off to the side for people to look at?
But people in the military actively DON'T want exposure. No one wants to practice for a parade for months at a time, and then put on a dress uniform and go around and prance around for the public. Especially when you know that they aren't honoring you, they're honoring themselves (specifically trump). Ask anyone in the military, or retired/separated from the military, and they'll tell you, the most miserable times in the military aren't when you're out in the field, they're when you're practicing for some dog and pony show, so that someone can think they're important. If you wanted to honor the military, you'd just let the idea of military parades die.
Honor the military by fixing the fucking VA.
Honor the military by fixing the fucking VA.
This, the VTA is beyond fucked and our government isn't talking about it at all.
No tanks? That takes the best part of the parade away. Their better be enough aircraft flying that it would make Bomber Harris blush.

Treads aren't the problem. The issue is weight. A main battle tank weighs over twice as much as a loaded semi truck. Roads are curved for water drainage and putting that much weight on them crushes the asphalt and the gravel under layer.

Veterans day parades are much better handled locally. It's much better to do localized ones around bases in the local community, and they appreciate it a lot more than a huge spectacle like this.
In Trump's defense (can't believe I just said that), many other first world countries that we are allied with have military parades as well.
The other countries (France was, I believe, the major inspiration for this one) are usually commemorating certain events, like the super important revolutionary crucible of the French Republic at the Bastille, rather than commemorating the mere existence of their President...
In Trump's defense (can't believe I just said that), many other first world countries that we are allied with have military parades as well.
Here in Pilsen we even have annual US military parades. But do they even need the exposure in the first place? Your military already has a gargantuan presence in American culture, how much has that done to fix real, tangible problems like the VA?
I’d be okay with a small procession of honor guard and flags (like 100~ people tops) and a ceremony for the fallen and wounded. But nobody in DC wants anything short of a blowjob from the armed forces
A modern military parade could be interesting, but at the same time it's unnecessary and the motivation from the trump administration disgusts me a little. [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/espntg.jpg[/t]
