Charges of anti-Muslim prejudice flew thick and fast following Fox News anchor Lauren Green's interview with Reza Aslan, a religious scholar and the author of Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth in which she repeatedly asked Aslan why, as a Muslim, he is interested in writing about Jesus' life. Aslan emphasized that he is a historian, answering, "Well, to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim." Green, host of the online show Spirited Debate, went on to suggest Aslan hadn't disclosed his Muslim identity during previous media interviews. Aslan countered that he mentions his faith on the second page of the book. A post at Buzzfeed asked "Is This The Most Embarrassing Interview Fox News Has Ever Done?" and The New Yorker's Emily Nussbaum called it "demented." The Twitter hashtag #foxnewslitcrit was spawned, full of mock interview questions such as, "Ms. Rowling, what gives you, a muggle, the right to write a book about wizards?" But as The Atlantic Wire's Connor Simpson notes, all of this could be good for Aslan: Zealot rose to the top spot on Amazon following the interview. (You can also hear Aslan speak to Fresh Air's Terry Gross and Weekend Edition's Rachel Martin about Zealot.)

The video of the interview is in the article. So go watch it before making idiotic posts.

If at first you don't succeed, ad hominem...
The content of the book seems very well researched.
Jesus was real, no doubt about that, but his life and how he lived has always been questioned when it comes to the Bible.
Just one example, when he was in his early 30's (which was old for the time), he was unmarried and didn't have children. People at the time would have found that very strange, so where did his influence come from?
Also, the interview seemed to start well, but descended into typical Fox News farce at about halfway. Why can't a Muslim write about anther religion? He's clearly very qualified.
Oh man, faggots are getting OWNED in the comments. This interview was 100% domination.

I always liked the theory that Jesus didn't just sit at home and work as a carpenter, and that he traveled East and met traveling Buddhist/Hindu monks in persia-area, then incorporated some of their teachings when he returned as a "prophet."
Seriously, Jesus had incredibly eastern teachings that went against classic western-style religion at the time. I just like the idea, and it makes more sense than him suddenly having an epiphany and going about telling people all about how they should do stuff.

You should read "Lamb."

It's a comedy, and a pretty darn well-written one, about just that. Written from the point of view of Jesus's best buddy.

I love absurdism. Will check it out once I barrel through the Huxley and Kerouac that have been sitting on my shelf for months.

Check out the rest of Moore's stuff, while you're at it. He does absurdism pretty darn well. Lamb is his strongest piece in my opinion, but the rest of his books are all still very fun, at worst.
Practical Demonkeeping, Coyote Blue, and Fool are my other favorites by him.
Practical Demonkeeping is about a dude haunted by a biblical demon that eats people he gets too close to, Coyote Blue is about the Native American deity Old Man Coyote in modern times, and Fool is a retelling of King Lear as a comedy, from the perspective of the court jester. Solid books.

How can we expect a Fox News interviewer to know something that doesn't appear until page two of the book? To know that was there, she would have to have opened the book. Let's be reasonable.
What a racist thing to say about Lauren Green, the black commentator on Fox. Why do liberals hate blacks so much?
3rd comment in and I feel confused
this must be a new record
Muslims love Jesus too
That interviewer was really rude.
Seems like every day Fox is less of a news network and more of a political propaganda machine. I recently read that one corespondent thinks that Anthony Weiner's wife is a prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
So she's one of those who thinks anyone different in any way politically or religiously is passively part of some kind of homogeneous group or hivemind with an agenda
Why don't they get that you can actually do things while putting your beliefs aside for five fucking minutes?
Just Fox News being themselves and getting told by an author. I don't see the "outrage".

It was never a news network. It just masquerades as one to spread right wing shit.
Wow he actually needs to explain things as if he's talking to a child

contrary to popular belief, fox news is still a news network and all their stories have at least some grain of truth
they may be heavily biased but they're still reporting the news, just a heavily biased version of the news

Here's the outrage. People (read fox news watchers) 1-starring the book on amazon.

The top 1-star is awesome.
god that Fox News interview was straight-up domination, I couldn't stop laughing
"b-but, you're a muslim! you can't write about other religions because bias!"
"bitch i got a PhD and 20 years experience, gg no re"
"b-but, muh bias!"
Sucks that the main conservative "news" station is awful.
Now compare that interview to this one:

This person very recently did an AMA on Reddit.
interviewer got absolutely butt dominated
it's sad because she's probably too dumb to realize she did indescribably shitty job
holy shit i just watched the entire interview, is that common for fox news interviews? i've seen some, and i know it tends to be bad, but damn. :suicide:
"When you are a brown Muslim man from Iran talking about Jesus you must always remain calm :)" - Reza Aslan :v:

Yeah. :(
JeeeeeeeeeeeeZUS CRIMINy.
Every time I think I have seen Fox's absolute worst, they come out of left field with something so outrageously ignorant and offensive that I'm forced to redefine my perception of the world in order to accommodate it.
[editline]29th July 2013[/editline]
Reza tells a joke.

Yes, but you're a Muslim, telling jokes about a Christian. Did you state your bias before you started the joke?
He has four degrees in joke telling. It will be okay.
Apparently, Lauren Green, the Fox News interviewer, has a double standard and thinks it's not ok for a Muslim to write about Christ, but it's perfectly fine for her (who is a Christian) to write about Islam.
