A 12-year-old child prodigy has astounded university professors after grappling with some of the most advanced concepts in mathematics. Jacob Barnett has an IQ of 170 - higher than Albert Einstein - and is now so far advanced in his Indiana university studies that professors are lining him up for a PHD research role. The boy wonder, who taught himself calculus, algebra, geometry and trigonometry in a week, is now tutoring fellow college classmates after hours. Scroll down for video Gifted: Jacob Barnett is so far ahead of his age group he is now leaving university he is developing his own theory on how the universe came into being Gifted: Jacob Barnett is so far ahead of his age group he is now leaving university he is developing his own theory on how the universe came into being And now Jake has embarked on his most ambitious project yet - his own 'expanded version of Einstein's theory of relativity'. His mother, not sure if her child was talking nonsense or genius, sent a video of his theory to the renowned Institute for Advanced Study near Princeton University. Gifted: Aspergers syndrome and the conditions affecting child development Autism: A condition that starts in early childhood, usually involving serious developmental disabilities with social interaction and communication. People with this disorder can have a range of abilities, from being severely disabled to gifted. It is estimated one in every 150 child has the condition. Aspergers: A syndrome that is similar to autism, but with the distinction that those with it typically function better, have normal intelligence and near-normal language development. Savant: Rare condition in which persons with developmental disorders have astonishing islands of ability, brilliance or talent that stand in stark contrast to overall limitations. According to the Indiana Star, Institute astrophysics professor Scott Tremaine -himself a world renowned expert - confirmed the authenticity of Jake's theory. In an email to the family, Tremaine wrote: 'I'm impressed by his interest in physics and the amount that he has learned so far. 'The theory that he's working on involves several of the toughest problems in astrophysics and theoretical physics. 'Anyone who solves these will be in line for a Nobel Prize.' But for his mother Kristine Barnett, 36, and the rest of the family, maths remains a tricky subject. Speaking to the paper, Mrs Barnett said: 'I flunked math. I know this did not come from me.' And it hasn't gone un-noticed by Jake, who added: 'Whenever I try talking about math with anyone in my family they just stare blankly.' Jake was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, a mild form of autism, from an early age. His parents were worried when he didn't talk until the age of two, suspecting he was educationally abnormal. It was only as he began to grow up that they realised just how special his gift was. He would fill up note pads of paper with drawings of complex geometrical shapes and calculations, before picking up felt tip pens and writing equations on windows. By the age of three he was solving 5,000-piece puzzles and he even studied a state road map, reciting every highway and license plate prefix from memory. By the age of eight he had left high school and was attending Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis advanced astrophysics classes. Does he play minecraft? Oh boy, look at all those boxes rolling in. We can see where people take shit way to seriously.
I know what his favorite videogame is
Wow, I look forward to seeing it.

....I should just kill myself. I want to learn Calculus but it just doesn't make sense to me :smith:

No, they'll just get someone smart in whatever area they need, and get them to do it for them.
Does he play minecraft? Oh boy, look at all those boxes rolling in. We can see where people take shit way to seriously.
Or maybe there's just so many times you can tell a joke the same way before people don't think it's funny anymore.
He's not going to be taken seriously. Just because he's good at maths and remembering certain things, does not make him a physicist capable of besting Einstein, who, incidentally spent more time on general relativity than this kid has been speaking. I won't deny that he is good at maths, but he simply won't be taken seriously, wait untill Avon sees this thread.
....I should just kill myself. I want to learn Calculus but it just doesn't make sense to me :smith:
This kid learned it all in a fucking week. I don't think anyone of us has the capability to develop such intellectual ability. [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] he still will be forever alone though. But atleast, these people go throughout their lives alone researching these things but become one of the most well known figures in modern times.
My sister also got Assburgers, she's really smart but this is just incredible. I got PDD-NOS (Also Autism, diagnosed very late though at the age of 17) myself which doesn't really grant me much :( I just hope he doesn't get interested in politics because it's been a while since I had dinner without someone starting a topic about politics.
I can't think of a pun for this :smithicide:

If you're smart, most people will disagree with you, but you got to keep on going and you will be successful. If you're dumb, most people will agree with you, and you won't be as successful. It's not like the majority of humans on the planet are smart. If you got a smart idea, don't let people discourage you.
he'll either be fine with being forever alone, be able to get groupies and things, or just get rich and get a trophy wife
Doubt it. Their social abilities are close to none. They're extremely intelligent, but they're retarded (using actual definition of 'retarded' here).

The fact is, he's going to be little more then an organic computer to his peers.
He is the "good" type of autism. Too bad the majority of autistic kids don't even know what the shit is going on.
the only issue i take with this is the "IQ higher than einstein" there are a shitload of people with higher IQs than einstein that isn't really an accomplishment he was a 160, and there are people even in the 200s, and tons still above 160 hell, there are tons above his IQ, 170. IQ is generally a silly measure
He good the "good" type of autism. Too bad the majority of autistic kids don't even know what the shit is going on.
Actually you're wrong. Autistic kids, even ones with aspergers, display high amounts of intelligence. Often obsessive over their knowledge and creations. They're just socially inept. by extension, einstein was never straight up tested and his IQ is pure guessing
I dislike the whole IQ gambit, mensa, etc. Artists are intelligent in their own right, as are Mathematicians, yet under the banner of IQ, one may 'rank' significantly lower than the other. The only use I've seen of IQ is to dictate that someone is 'a lolgenius' to the mass media, and to provide food for people to boast about their 'superior intellect' due to having a higher IQ. I think the real intelligent people are ones whom have control of their own minds, are willing to look deeper than face value at the wonders that this universe holds and enjoys thought, no matter how zany or creative, or logical, or theoretical. People who boast about their intellect are clearly not intelligent, or they'd be spending more time thinking, and less time wasting the valuable and precious little time we have here on earth, before we are subject to eternal darkness, arguing about trivial bullshit.
IQ is generally a silly measure
Don't IQ tests only show your ability to take tests?

It functions in different ways than yours. Stop calling him retarded, lol. [editline]25th March 2011[/editline]
Don't IQ tests only show your ability to take tests?
It shows you how good you are at passing a test meant for a certain type of person to pass.
I think you're socially inept. This guy's brain is just wired differently. It functions in different ways than yours. Stop calling him retarded, lol.
I wouldn't say he called him retarded. It's true, because the guys brain is wired differently, he's socially inept.
Actually he's correct, Autistic kids are usually socially awkward, failing to be able to hold simple conversation in many cases. It's quite sad as they cannot help it.
You guys are socially inept if you can't communicate with a "socially inept" person. Or you're just not used to it.
Yea there are also autistic kids who run around naked moaning all day with no comprehension of even 1 + 1.
it's awesome but kinda sad at the same time. I mean it doesn't seem like he can ever just be a kid
