[QUOTE]AMC's Halt and Catch Fire begins its story in 1983, just as the personal computer boom is beginning to take shape. It's one year after IBM released its PC and Joe McMillan, an ex-IBM sales guy, wants in on the game.[/QUOTE]

The first episode was great, I'm pretty excited for the series.
this started already? i thought it was premiering in june.
nevertheless, i shall watch the first episode.
edit: and that was a pretty good pilot, i shall continue to watch this.
That was really good for a pilot. It started off really weak but ended really strong.
Second episode was weird but still has me hooked.
I hope this will fill the void Mad Men will leave
is Joe gay or bi? The way [sp]he looked at Cameron at the end of ep 3 made it seem like he's gay but they did hook up in the beginning and im just really confused right now[/sp]

[sp]oh it was a powerplay nevermind[/sp]
im pretty sure joe is just banging her because she "needs" it, but i couldn't stop saying OMG after [sp] joe bangs their investor's husband[/sp]

All the ratings I saw for it were pretty good except one chick who had no idea what she was talking about

Basically the only people giving it shit reviews are underrated papers who need attention
I dunno I'm liking this show so far. Screw ratings. Im happy with it.
i think joe just really doesn't like women, but cameron is enough of a tomboy for him to get along also 5 minutes to new episode!
[editline]22nd June 2014[/editline]
[sp]dat scene where his neighbor was there in his pants [/sp]
ya joe legitimately hates women
wow cameron is a bitch
[sp] and joe is also a bastard[/sp]
Mad Men had a shaky start, I'll give this show a chance. I liked the last episode a lot.
This show is really great. So much fucking going on.
this show is fucking great
I've watched the first episode. I have no idea what half of the stuff means, but it's pretty thrilling. Consider me hooked.
The latest episode was reeaally good, makes up for any shortcomings the previous ones had.
Yes, that episode was certainly the best of all so far, but...
Previously my main grip with the show was the technical gibberish not understandable by anyone who's not tech savvy with the stuff from the 80's, and the show made no step to explain it to the viewers (the lack of irritating character that sole purpose is to explain stuff to the audience), but right now I see a much bigger flaw.
The comparisions to Mad Men are inevitable. Period drama, similar main character, same network, unique artstyle, it's natural and obvious. And the creators are trying as hard as they can to shift away from that, by doing things opposite to Mad Men. And by that they're missing the point. What I mean, is that pacing in this show is all over the place. In eight episodes they're trying to do what Mad Men achieved in four seasons. Most importantly in the character development (this was the first episode to have characters interacting with each other thorugh "meaningless" discussion, beside the one with the storm, that was entire Joe centered), but also the small things. What made Mad Men so great, is that there was right amount of build-up before things happened, by impatient called "filler episodes". In Halt and Catch Fire in every episode shit goes down. It's getting formulatic - some progress, crisis, 30 minutes, crisis averted.
I realize that first season is always the hardest to make, when creators don't really know much about their character, and are throwing shit on the wall to see how it sticks. So far, this show feels rushed, like they're afraid of getting canceled too soon. If that thing would happened, I doubt anyone would remember the show after two years. But then again, the same thing can be said about first season of Mad Men.

i think the problem is after about the 4th or 5th episode when they had the bios code, they really were out of material and had to shift the show into another segment, the first 4 episodes were solely focused on setting them up to fail, getting gordon ontop of hardware, and getting cameron working on the damn bios which she took 2 episodes to even start typing then suddenly its over, joe burned the blue book and what now? next season will probably decide whether this show can continue or not it'll probably be revolving all around them working on getting the giant manufactured and i suspect a trip to 1980's asia
[editline]31st July 2014[/editline]
i sense a lot of conflict resolutions in the final episode of this season though
comdex stuff was pretty good
Wait, so that was a season finale? Feels kinda awkward having no real closure knowing there probably won't be the second season.

I have a theory why though: there is a channel called MGM in lots of EU countries and elsewhere, and its getting rebranded as AMC. It needs original shows and they can't pick stuff like Breaking Bad or Mad Men because those are co-produced with studios like Sony or Lionsgate and are already sold to networks.
This leaves two fully in-house shows: The Divide and Halt and Catch Fire. And since you cannot start a network with "Check out these exciting shows with no resolution because they got canned in the US after one season!", AMC gotta produce some follow-ups.
Tl;dr: series got saved by people who haven't even watched it yet
Gigantic bump, but anyone else watched the second season? What did you think about it?
I'm just watching the first season now, I'm loving it.
Second season was miles above the first imo.
Season 3 premiers tonight
