NEW YORK -- The United States' 2-2 World Cup draw with Portugal is almost certainly the most-watched soccer match ever in the U.S., an emphatic confirmation of the sport's rising popularity in a country slower to embrace it than the rest of the world. The Nielsen company said Sunday's gripping game was seen by an average of 24.7 million viewers on ESPN and Univision. That matches it with the 24.7 million U.S. viewers who watched the 2010 World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands. [...] Through 32 matches, World Cup games averaged 4.3 million viewers on ESPN. That's up 50 percent from the nearly 2.9 million for matches in the 2010 World Cup. Sunday's match was the most-watched event ever on ESPN that did not involve American football.
Source: CBS
Yes, join us and feel the pain of last minute tie goals.
That's because people can actually tolerate sitting through the games without those obnoxious vuvuzelas blaring constantly. I stopped watching the 2010 World Cup pretty early on because it was unbearable.
i still dont care sorry :(

I still have no idea how the championship works but I cheer when the USA team doesn't lose.
I'd love the US national football comp to kick off! more L.A. Galaxy Vs Sydney FC!
It only goes up from here.
Just another stupid reason why the US is becoming more like leftist Europe.
This is my 3rd world cup that I've watched, but thats pretty much the only time that I watch soccer. Its hard to be a soccer fan in the US, soccers not really aired on tv so I'd have to rely on the internet to follow it. Not impossible, just not welcoming. Same thing with rugby. Both enjoyable, both rarely televised.
The USA's doing better and people are believing that the USA have a chance to win the whole thing (granted we know absolutely nothing about soccer.)
Every time we call it soccer, the rest of the world hates us that much more.
Every time we call it soccer, the rest of the world hates us that much more.
The rest of the world that didn't make it to the world cup or lost before us can hate all they want :v
Every time we call it soccer, the rest of the world hates us that much more.
Actually....

FUCKING HELL, that was huge.
Going with Greenland's. Fodbold.
it's not even a case that you can't pronounce Football, it's not like Aluminium but you purposefully named a sport where you hold a ball in your hands and run... Football.
it's not even a case that you can't pronounce Football, it's not like Aluminium but you purposefully named a sport where you hold a ball in your hands and run... Football.
Please shut up, this doesn't have to be rehashed every thread
it's not even a case that you can't pronounce Football, it's not like Aluminium but you purposefully named a sport where you hold a ball in your hands and run... Football.
Blame the Oxford idiots for soccer, not US.
Actually.... FUCKING HELL, that was huge.
irish people don't say soccer. it's football and gaelic/gaelic football
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_association_football#Background [editline]26th June 2014[/editline] WHY DID YOU RUIN MY MERGE.
Never understood the football vs soccer debate. Different countries use different words for the same things. I'm gonna call it soccer, because thats what we call it here. If Im in a different part of the world I'll call it football for ease of conversation, but here its soccer. No ones getting all hung up on chips vs crisps vs fries, why soccer vs football?
America is better at the sport than Britain so therefore it's called soccer now
America is better at the sport than Britain so therefore it's called soccer now
Britain doesn't have a team, silly. [thumb]http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/rNu8XDBSn10/maxresdefault.jpg[/thumb]
It's called football in Australia now as well http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/
It would be kind of fun if everyone here got into it, give us all something to cheer about instead of being at odds with each other all the time.
Of course we're watching the world cup this time. We're doing pretty damn good in it.
its the gradual spread of civilization to the North American continent
I hope America picks up on football more, not saying NFL isn't good but nobody else watches it so there's not really anything to talk about
I hope America picks up on football more, not saying NFL isn't good but nobody else watches it so there's not really anything to talk about
.. what? are you saying the only subject that people of different nationalities can talk about are sports?
