At least 50 people are reported injured and casualties have been brought to the surface on stretchers. The cause of the blast is not immediately clear but witnesses say black smoke is rising from the Oktyabrskaya metro station in the city centre. The state news agency BelTA said the blast occurred at 5.55 pm local time at the metro station which is about 100 metres from the administration building of the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko. Between five and seven people are said to have been killed. Dozens more were injured. The blast reportedly happened as two trains were pulling into the Oktyabrskaya metro station near the offices of president Alexander Lukashenko. There is as yet no indication of what caused the explosion during the evening rush hour in Minsk city centre. But it comes amid political tension surrounding the controversial re-election of President Lukashenko in December, in a poll widely denounced as fraudulent. Many opposition figures were detained and some remain behind bars. In december we had presidential election. Our current president (Alexander Lukashenko) is still the first president of our country. Somewhy he always won all elections. And by some odd reason, after elections all presidential candidates were arrested and jailed. A lot of people (but still not the majority) believe, that the subway blast was executed by the government in order to divert public attention. They've already pulled the same trick on June 3rd in 2008, when the Independence Day was celebrated. The thing is, there are no countries that may hate us. Also, in Belarus there is no religious conflict, but only political. And Lukashenko tries everything to retain his place. Do they have an idea of what the cause could be yet? [editline]11th April 2011[/editline]
Our current president (Alexander Lukashenko) is still the first president of our country. The moment I hear about Belarus I think of this sketch. 5:15 I'm a terrible person.
fuck this is why we have term limits
From wiki
The term for the president is five years, but due to a 1996 referendum, the election that was supposed to occur in 1999 was pushed back to 2001. Under the 1994 constitution, the president could only serve for two terms as president, but due to a change in the constitution, term limits were eliminated.

islamic terrorism
Because that's the only kind of terrorism
Second NSFW image. Oh god, I hope he isn't perma-blind.
From wiki
fuck if you do not have always-mandated term limits, autocracy will pop up, essentially the same thing happened with Egypt except they used emergency law as a loophole around term limits but that's missing the point, jesus christ, that man with the fucked up face - he's lucky to be alive
This is pretty strange. I always imagined Belarus as a stable country, albeit under a pretty authoritarian rule. It could've been anyone who did it.
The second and the fifth NSFW image, Oh dear god! :ohdear:
I hope this doesn't delay the Worlds of Tanks release
Blowing shit up is a really bad way to get a message across. Unless you want to create terror. Other than that it doesn't create any solutions.

Strange that shit like this happens in Eastern Europe. We're already suffering.
