reminds me of firewatch with a different approach
so it's a walking simulator with some rpg elements
Definitely looks pretty.
You can definitely make an interesting experience out of a "walking simulator." It's a shame most of them feel so derivative, even lazy.
Definitely has potential.
I like this new influx of games like these.
This gave me Dark Cloud and Skyrim vibes. I like it.
"Walking simulator" is actually a genre I genuinely love. Is there a more correct term for it though? It sounds so negative. Which it shouldn't be, it's a type of game focused on exploration, observation, world-building and atmosphere, through an extremely basic form of gameplay. People who complain they aren't real games because their gameplay is less complex are just naive.

Looks really good actually, though not very original. I hope the writing is good.
This looks and feels sooo much like Morrowind and the Myst series.
I'm really looking forward to this

The different approach appears to be actual gameplay and humans that are corporeal. How novel.

Fallout 4?
Looks pretty. Wish it had more to painting stuff rather than just taking what is really just a screen shot.

It sounds like what walking simulators should be. A bit more depth and interactivity is what this particular "genre" needs. Make the journey across the wilderness more engaging and worthwhile.

devs response to a similar question
Thanks for your feedback, Mars. We will consider it carefully, especially the bit about asking friendly NPCs to pose for you. That sounds like it could be really interesting! Making a full on painting simulator may be interesting as well, but its not the game we set out to make. The game didn't even have painting at all when it started, it was all about simply exploring the virtual world and doing quests through the dialogue. Like Elder Scrolls without combat. We felt like the game needed something iconic to grab onto, and being a painter serves that. I hope you don't give up on us just yet. We're trying our hardest to make something special!•
We used to call them puzzle-exploration games, before we decided we hated them.

I've always considered it a term of affection, personally.

I've always mentally link the term "walking simulator" to stuff like Arma (inbetween combat areas without vehicles) or that game with the old lady wandering aimlessly in a cemetery.
Not really a good impression when I hear it.
Exploration game sounds better.
I'm seeing a trend of non-violent video games these days

I don't mind it. It's the turnaround from the shooter burnout we had back in 2012ish.
