Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud, Spanish media say. His father, Jorge Messi, was also given a jail term for defrauding Spain of €4.1m (£3.2m; $4.6m) between 2007 and 2009. During the trial, prosecutors said tax havens in Belize and Uruguay were used to conceal earnings from image rights.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36721892 That was unexpected
The classic case of "dindu nuffin". I wonder what will be of him now, and if he'll be going to prison even actually.

Good thing Spain is actually doing something about tax fraud.
Good thing Spain is actually doing something about tax fraud.
But like it'll matter. Messi will just bring out his Papa card and get off free, as if nothing had ever happened.
But like it'll matter. Messi will just bring out his Papa card and get off free, as if nothing had ever happened.
but his father was also arrested and jailed in 2007 , why would that change anything.
However, neither man is expected to serve time in jail. Under the Spanish system, prison terms of under two years can be served under probation.
Article states they can avoid jail time, but they paid 5 million euros in fines (which I'm sure is a relatively small dent to Messi's bank account).
He's not going to jail because you can't go to jail unless you're sentenced for more than 24 months or are a repeat offender.
Article states they can avoid jail time, but they paid 5 million euros in fines (which I'm sure is a relatively small dent to Messi's bank account).
He already paid and he's not going to jail, unless he does something else (like a serius traffic offense) and ends up going to jail for both sentences
doesnt he make enough fucking money? shit like this makes me completely lose respect for someone.
He'll make an apology and agree to pay some of it back to avoid jail time. That's usually how the system works in these cases.
Never understand the greed of some people. They earn millions but still try to cheat tax so they can keep a sum that most likely would not have made a difference in their lives. Then again I'm not a millionaire so what do I know.
Oh boy it's gonna go downhill for him if Ronaldo wins the Euro for Portugal and Zidane turning out to not be Di Matteo 2.0
Good thing Spain is actually doing something about tax fraud.
*canned sitcom laugher* I love this country so much. You are rich? You are above the law. You aren't? Too bad, you will be rotting in jail until your trial begins.
He will rename himself to 'Hillary Clinton' and he will be free :).
stuff like this makes me think does getting rich make you more greedy? or is the greed a thing that always exists? kinda makes me scared of the possibility of ever getting rich cause i'd hate myself

His father, who btw, has been involved in frauds like this before.

In a wildly different field of crime but another sportsman non the less, Oscar Pistorious has just been found guilty for his wife's murder, he's been given 6 years in jail for it,( apparantly thats likely to be 3 with good behaviour). The usual sentance is 15 years, even with time already serve he's still fucking years off that. 'Mitigating' circumstances getting him a lesser sentance. This world is a fucking joke.

Hopefully I didn't come off has trying to defend him, just telling you what he said in court. I agree with both of you too.
