Time to save the space thread from the depths of general discussion. I will update this post now and then with news, rocket launch schedules and dates for interesting events. Message me if there's something you want up here!
News:
Europe's Comet-Chasing Spacecraft Gets Big Wake-Up Call Monday

A European spacecraft will emerge from 2.5-year hibernation Monday (Jan. 20) to begin preparing for a long-awaited encounter with a comet in May. The European Space Agency's Rosetta probe is scheduled to wake up at 5 a.m. EST (1000 GMT) Monday after sleeping in deep space for the past 957 days. The first signal from a newly alert Rosetta is expected to arrive here on Earth no earlier than 12:30 p.m. EST (1730 GMT) Monday, ESA officials said. The Rosetta spacecraft blasted off in March 2004 on a mission to chase down and rendezvous with Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko more than a decade later. I like space.
i like touching big telescopes like swebonny's and larp's their telescopes are the best
i like touching big telescopes like swebonny's and larp's their telescopes are the best
My telescope is bigger than Swebonny's though. :)
I received my telescope by the way: It's pretty big.
Larp, I wanna touch your telescope somewhere in the future.
My telescope is bigger than Swebonny's though. :)
A whole 200 mm bigger.
I stuck a camera on the end of mine: Feels safe and stable. (Actually it is surprisingly stable, so that's good). Still waiting on clear skies though..
is this going to become a di--telescope waving contest
Good news by the way: President Obama signs $17.6 billion NASA budget!! http://www.spaceflightnow.com/news/n1401/17budget/#.Utr9LhARmUl
space is pretty cool i guess [t]http://puu.sh/6pFic.jpg[/t]

Considering how many amazing things we've gotten from Hubble, it should be fantastic.

The first page is so pretty with all these sexy space pictures and telescopes.
And not to fuck the thread up, have a pic of the Andromeda galaxy: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/41041550/Pictures/13/dec/DSC_0495.jpg[/t]
If we're posting self-taken pics again, how about one of Jupiter: This was before I got the telescope, used a 400mm tele-lens. Haven't been able to try with the scope yet, due to clouds.
space is great, but I suck at science :c
Seeing all the sexy pictures on AstroBin make me want to get a telescope or at least a better lens for my camera.
Space pirates ahoy :v: We need to weaponize telescopes
New panorama from the Chinese lander:
Hopefully one day we'll get to see another Earth like planet from upclose. The milky way also gives me a slight eerie feeling for some reason. Is there an universe map of some sort (similar to Space Engine)?
Seeing all the sexy pictures on AstroBin make me want to get a telescope or at least a better lens for my camera.
You can do a lot without getting super-telephoto lenses. For things like Andromeda, you don't really need a lot of zoom, because it's actually really large in the sky. I took this with a 105mm lens, it's multiple exposures and using DeepSkyStacker to boost exposure without introducing a lot of noise: [editline]19th January 2014[/editline] In fact, if it was easier to see, it would be this size compared to the moon: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2668640/stellar/moone.jpg[/t]
