But if you think a local feature needs the walk-through Google treatment, the company might be convinced to let you use its equipment to capture it yourself. Google is kicking off a pilot program in which it plans to lend the "Trekker" backpack-mounted camera system to individuals and organizations who think they have something to add to the map. Don't fall.
This is a really cool idea.
Applied, I live on a lake in Michigan and I'm 5 minutes away from Manistee-huron national forest which has some really sweet trails.
To boldly go where no Google Maps car has gone before.
google's taking over the world ...one step at a time
So now we can go from street view to INSIDE the buildings! Noice.
if i bought one of these i would just go to the nearest forest and do a grid and then wait for it to be uploaded and then go on google maps and see all the pictures i made
Someone should take one of these on a Chernobyl/Pripyat tour
google's taking over the world ...one step at a time
To be honest, the world always was and still is controlled. There won't ever be a time where it isn't, there only is the belief of the world not being controlled. If I should make it as simplistic as possible, the world since some time has been leaving the control to money, and still is.
Now I never have to leave my house to enjoy far-off places!
I was thinking it was more of an app that uses a camera phone to travel, but that works too.

Iwata got one of these a while ago, I think he mapped most of the US Nintendo HQ
So now we can go from street view to INSIDE the buildings! Noice.
Has been done already, check out some places in Japan and popular cities
Iwata got one of these a while ago, I think he mapped most of the US Nintendo HQ
I want Nintendo to make a game where you play as Iwata and you walk around Nintendo of America HQ zapping aliens with the camera thingy.
Not going for self-depreciative humor, but if I didn't stay inside all day, I'd totally do this. I'd love to help technology improve.
I want Nintendo to make a game where you play as Iwata and you walk around Nintendo of America HQ zapping aliens with the camera thingy.
super iwata sunshine
I would do this if I could justify it with more than two tiny parks in my vicinity
Iwata got one of these a while ago, I think he mapped most of the US Nintendo HQ
The twist is, he is doing mocap for Mario Sunshine 2. EVIDENCE
Should do one for my uni..
Imagine all the bitches you would get with that
If this was a paid gig, my mother in law would be all over this like a bad rash. She's 60 and does 400km++ walks for pleasure whenever she's travelling with her 70 year old husband.
Imagine all the bitches you would get with that
Hey bitches, check out my giant ball camera

Also, the music is nice.
What if it gets stolen from you?
I was thinking about something like this the other day. I was thinking if we could use our phones to make panoramas of certain places and stick them on Streetview.
What if it gets stolen from you?
Why would you steal this?
It can't be used to explore dense vegetation areas, it may hit tree branches and stuff like that.
