• PSU Imminent Failure?

My PSU is a Corsair CX750M. Last night I noticed a burning rubber smell coming from my PSU. I investigated further and found that it was unusually hot and the fans are running at near max speed. I cleared dust, elevated the PC (bottom back mounted), etc. I calculated wattage and I'm actually usually pulling around under 100W - 250W what the PSU is rated for. This happened a few days after a lightning storm that knocked out power a few times with my PC being directly plugged into a power outlet. Could this have something to do with it? My PC still boots up and runs fine. I just don't want to risk anything if my PSU is about to catch on fire (yes it's actually running that hot).
Definitely worrying that this just happened to start after the power outages/surges. It probably won't catch fire, most reputable brands have build-in safety features so the power is cut long before anything burns or explodes. If something such as a capacitor has gone bad though there's a chance it might pop giving out a lot of smoke and could take the rest of your pc with it by surging everything with power. If it's in warranty try going through Corsair to see if they'll replace it, or else I'd buy a new one. Maybe even buy something like a surge protector for the future too.
I've contacted corsair and they said they'll RMA it. I guess waiting for a replacement is better than dropping ~$100 for a new one.
elevated the PC (bottom back mounted), etc.
The PSU is on the bottom of the case and the case was on the floor/desk? If the PSU wasn't mounted upside down to pull air from inside the case then it was basically sucking on desk or carpet, which would explain why it smelled like burning. The fact that it was hot has less to do with power surges and more to do with it having zero airflow. I've dealt with all sorts of destroyed power supplies and have never come across one that smelled like burning rubber (nor have I ever come across a PSU with rubber in it.) Fried ICs smells similar to burning car brakes, and fried inductors smell like "oh god dear god why" and will make you want to run screaming out of the room.
