http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8655651.stm [release]Rising rates of obesity among young Americans could undermine the future of the US military, two retired generals have warned. More than a quarter of young Americans are now too fat to fight, they said. Writing in the Washington Post, the ex-commanders said the fat crisis ruled out more potential military service recruits than any other medical factor. They want Congress to introduce laws to give US children better nutrition in schools, with less sugar, salt and fat. John Shalikashvili and Hugh Shelton, both former chairmen of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote: "Obesity rates threaten the overall health of America and the future strength of our military." "We consider this problem so serious from a national security perspective that we have joined more than 130 other retired generals, admirals and senior military leaders in calling on Congress to pass new child nutrition legislation," the commanders added. The warning comes amid mounting fears that childhood obesity has turned into an "epidemic" affecting an astonishing one in three young American people. Mr Shalikashvili and Mr Shelton pointed to post-school lunch laws from 1946, which recognised that poor nutrition reduced the pool of military recruits. "We must act, as we did after World War II, to ensure that our children can one day defend our country, if need be." Obesity rates in the US have surged over the last year, according to one report. The Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found adult obesity rates rose in 23 of the 50 states, but fell in none. [/release] Fat chance of those school lunch laws passing.
We could use them as ammo for catapults. Strap a bomb to them, catapult them in.
Funny how obesity doesn't become a concern until it affects the military. :patriot:

They've take everything out of everything, look at California's laws, they removed toys from happy meal toys and took out all trans fats in restaurants. Not to mention all carbonated drinks, diet or not are removed from all schools, everything is fucked up for us skinny people.
Join the military when fat, become fit and muscular in 8 weeks.

I'm talking about other areas. Such as small-town Midwest, which is where a shitload of soldiers come from.
This bill is ridiculous. I thought it was ridiculous when they removed non-diet sodas from school vending machines, and I'll think it's even more ridiculous if this comes to pass. If they want healthier kids, they ought to mandate that gym courses do more than play watered down team sports and actually hold to a regular excercise program. Running for five minutes at the beginning of PE and doing ten jumping jacks to warm up for whiffle ball isn't going to cut it.
They should make kids take more PE classes in K-12. Also, vending machines and shitty food in schools are not exactly helping.
Fuck that I hate PE and I do independent weightlifting on my own time.
you fat
In my opinion, PE doesn't do anything. I doubt some, if not most, of the fat guys want to exercise. Hell, I get enough exercise walking up and down stairs to the point of me not doing shit in PE. I think school lunches and bad parenting is to blame for this. Lunches in school are seemingly "healthy" but they are just greasy, fatty fast food imitations. And parents should be helping their kids get more into shape, not out of it.
fuck if anything this would make me want to become obese so I could never get drafted
Better call Sgt. Hartman.

Here in Scandinavia, it has always been banned. It'll only make people restless.
Caffeine increases your memory actually.
We could roll them down a hill and crush the enemy "Indiana Jones" Style.
It's bad parenting. More PE wont solve things.
Yeah, I always think of Full Metal Jacket when I hear about this. Oh yeah, this is the second time I've heard about it.
Caffeine increases your memory actually.
And since when did we play memory in school?
you fat
Bitch I'm 6'0 and 165 lbs I need to gain even more weight
I find it to be utterly insane that shit like burgers, fries, and pizza are being served in school every day. Kids are stupid, of course they're going to pick the greasy junk over anything else.

Looks like the only thing that'll be doing is laying in the bunkers eating cheetos.
