Trying to transition into a healthy lifestyle and building muscle
22 replies, posted
I'm going to be brunt, I'm 180 pounds and I believe about 20 pounds of it is fat, I'm starting to have a gut but my father says it's genetics on his side (my father and two of his brothers, along with his father were rather big) and I live an unhealthy, picky, unneeded lifestyle.
I'm going to have to change, lets face it, I've been on the computer 24/7 on my spare time and I do have the drive for physical activities in gym, but I need to literallyget fit, I don't want to live my life like this, and I believe the transition is going to be needed this week.
I'm looking on building muscle and actually eating healthy food as my diet has literally been bullshit, I'm talking about KFC, other fast foods and the like that are useless in nutritional terms.
This is why i've come to this sub-forum, All of you are most likely eating healthy, living healthy and actively (even if not, more-so then most people here, Including me presumably.)
I want to know what to eat, What activities I should do to start building muscle and strength with endurance, I'm going to be needing this change as I've been a fuckwit since highschool doing nothing, and I want to go somewhere.
Can you help me forum? I am in need of it.
My plans starting of now is that me and my father (although he used to being a body builder.) are going to the gym (although being a deadbeat with no money, I don't know when he's going to buy me a membership.) and that's where I'll start off, but as of now I have no budget and a personalized gym downstairs (although in my terms, going to a gym would be better.)
My motivation for this is that my father is pushing me to work out and become more active and live a healthy lifestyle as he is, and I'm 16 in highschool (grade 11), which also has a mini-sort of gym.
No more fried foods. Stick to eating grilled meats, preferably low cal like chicken, tuna, turkey, etc. Eat veggies like beans, spinach, lintels, etc. And fruits like strawberries, bananas, blueberries, etc. We have nutritional thread somewhere if you need additional health
What work out equipment do you have?

As far as activities you need to find something you like. I love tennis and climbing. Those are pretty much my only two sports. I do occasionally bike and I did diving for awhile. It all just depends on your personality. Do you like team sports or do you like going solo? Some good team ones are pretty obvious: soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, etc. I already listed a bunch of solo sports because that's more my thing.

A Bowflex,

But yeah, I'm lucky I got it downstairs, along with a treadmill but i'm thinking of (to spend my time more actively) to just run a self-designated course outside.
What is going to be the most brutal (to me) and the best change is my food, I usually only eat meat (the bad kind, like KFC and other fast food products.) that i'll need to get used to it, but for my change I'm going to start being less picky and more open about these foods, hell, I even got a mini-fridge in my bedroom to keep some food in there (won in a contest by my father.).
I don't know a lot about bowflexes but I assume it resembles a cable machine. That can be ok but you're going to want to get some DB's or BB's either that or get that gym membership p soon.
The diet will be hard to begin with but it gets a lot easier. I was in the same boat a couple years ago and now it's just like second nature to me to eat healthy.

Just stick with it.
its probably more than 20lbs of fat.
I'm 165lbs with roughly 20lbs of fat but I don't have a gut by any means.
How tall are you?

I'm all for anything long as I'm good and I can be a benefit for my team and vice-versa, I don't know what I like but my father even urged me to take some fighting courses (he doesn't care which, as long as I know how to fight he says.) thinking of taking boxing or something, I might take basketball or rowing.

Nope, sorry, no camera or a cellphone to take one. :v:.
But I do take it as that i'm not fat, the doctor classified me as close to the overweight scale in fat but not exceeding it, I alternate between 170-180 pounds, as spring comes on I'm sure to be losing it again, That and my trip to cuba also attributed to the unwanted fat.
Grab a tape measure boy:

These calculators tend to be at least semi-accurate, should give you an idea of your body fat.

Well, I'm going to try it, I'll probably get my parents to help as I don't know what the fuck to do on how to measure it. :v:
Alternatively you could get your BMI and use this:
(1.20 x BMI) + (0.23 x Age) - (10.8 x gender) - 5.4 = Body Fat
(gender = 1 for males, 0 for females)
BMI is a load of bullshit though
All calculators are bs. That bmi thing gave me 17%, one that uses measurements gave me something like 2-3%. I look something like 7-8%
As unprofessional as this question is...
How many (proper) push-ups can you do, and are you able to do sit-ups or crunches?

BMI formula one gave me 9%, which looks bang on the money. Maybe I was just lucky.
Apparently I have a BF of 15%? I look more like 11%

I'd say that's pretty close, considering it's a quick dirty method of calculating it.
you know i can give ( not just me ok wow cool ur jets ppl) closer estimates than that method ye
Gayswiss, get on skype. I miss you ;__;

Holy fuck I never knew extreme pita tasted so good.
I asked my gym teacher what's the healthiest shop at an overpass in the university near my highschool is, He pointed me to extreme pita.
I entered, looking up and checking the iron, calcium, protein and fat and I decided with my 10$, I could go and get Bourbon Chicken Chipolte.
It contained a fuckload of food that I tried before and hated, Salted green and red peppers, mushrooms, onions, and probably more (I was too busy scarfing it down, I'm going there tommorow), and holy fuck it was ecstacy, I loved every single bite of it.
healthy
um
um
oh god ;__; just
