If you're still using Windows XP, Microsoft has a piece of security advice for you: don't hit F1.
A recently discovered vulnerability is disrupting how Windows XP handles VBScripts that are used to load Help files. Hackers could disguise malicious code as a Windows Help file (with the extension ".hlp"), and then launch a pop-up window prompting users to press F1 for help. Pressing F1 would in fact load the malicious file, and execute the code, thus infecting a PC. Fortunately, the vulnerability does require user interaction, so those who refrain from using Help (or who turn it off entirely) will remain safe. Details for how to turn off Help can be found here.
The vulnerability applies to IE6, IE7, and IE8 on Windows XP. Vista and Windows 7 users, meanwhile, are unaffected.
Microsoft is currently working to patch the flaw, but has not announced a time by which to expect a fix. This is just one more reason to join the 21st century, and leave XP behind as the quaint memory of a bygone era that it is. [From: Microsoft, via: Computer World]
Because everyone uses the Windows Help and Support utility! Hey, there's this new thing called Google you should check it out some time.
:downsbravo:
Some people may be quite scared by the title of this, they may think their computer might explode!
Fuck you Microsoft, I'm not abandoning my XP.
I actually downgraded back to XP from Vista because of the problems it was causing me. I haven't had a single issue with XP since then.

Go to windows 7, it's the sleekness of vista with about the same resource use as XP
F1 dosen't help you at all.
There is a help and support utility that you can have running passively? I'm not making a joke or anything, but doesn't XP outright tell you what everything does when you first install it? If I've never used it, let alone heard of it, (I thought that there was only that one help program that you have to search to find your problem)I doubt that anyone who is not as well off with computer knowledge would even realize it's there.
xp works for me, since I use os 10 all the time, and XP for gaming.
Also, help is never the answer
Good thing I have Windows 7.

How's the compatibility? I game a LOT, and have a lot of programs I'm hoping to transfer over if I do switch my OS.
I also reformatted a while ago so I have a lot of stuff I would need to transfer, unless there's a way to keep it all as is, but with the new OS.
I'm not smart when it comes to operating systems :frown:
Microsoft has long said that Windows Help Files are dangerous. Which is why they abandoned them many years ago and replaced them with MAML in Vista.
Wow who even relies on windows help files anyhow? They're so boring to read.
It's their fault for still using a severely outdated OS.

Illiterate people.
Their help section is bullshit.

hey the only better OS than it is Windows 7, and there is not a shitload of difference between the 2, honestly
Some people may be quite scared by the title of this, they may think their computer might explode!
No that's the delete key.
Illiterate people.
Illiterate people can't read the help files therefor can't rely on them.
hey the only better OS than it is Windows 7, and there is not a shitload of difference between the 2, honestly
I'd bring linux into this argument but I think I'll just hang out under my bridge for now
everyone should update to windows 7 no exceptions
computer sucks too hard? get a new one
hey the only better OS than it is Windows 7, and there is not a shitload of difference between the 2, honestly
Vista was too. And by god there are very many changes. Just because you can't see them doesn't me they don't exist.
I'd bring linux into this argument but I think I'll just hang out under my bridge for now
i don't care about linux or mac etc, this is a discussion about micrososft os
i really need to get off my lazy ass and start upgrading
Stupid windows users, maybe this'll convince them to buy a superior and beautiful mac. Apple would never let shit like this get into their system, plus it's virus proof.

Oh god I laughed so hard.
Illiterate people.
what that makes no sense
what that makes no sense
Technologically Illiterate he means.
Why do people still use an 8 year old OS anyway? Are they just afraid of progress?
what that makes no sense
Neither does the continued usage of XP in home environments, but hey, some people are too poor to afford a mac. pretty pathetic if you ask me..

No because I use a Pentium III.
