One of television’s more popular dramas is ending. ‘House MD’ will end after its current season. ‘House’ is currently on season 8 and is expected to airs its season finale (and series finale) on May 21, 2012. According to ‘House’ lead actor Hugh Laurie, the decision to end the series was a painful one. “The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved,” said Laurie. “The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air.” There were already indications that the series would be ending. Hugh Laurie’s contract with the show is only up to the end of this season and no announcement for its renewal was ever made. Usually, contract renewals for lead actors, especially for a show that is built around a central character as this one, are announced ahead of time. Posted below is the official statement on the end on ‘House MD’: After much deliberation, the producers of “House M.D.” have decided that this season of the show, the 8th, should be the last. By April this year they will have completed 177 episodes, which is about 175 more than anyone expected back in 2004. The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years — but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved. Since it began, “House” has aspired to offer a coherent and satisfying world in which everlasting human questions of ethics and emotion, logic and truth, could be examined, played out, and occasionally answered. This sounds like fancy talk, but it really isn’t. “House” has, in its time, intrigued audiences around the world in vast numbers, and has shown that there is a strong appetite for television drama that relies on more than prettiness or gun play. But now that time is drawing to a close. The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air. The producers can never sufficiently express their gratitude to the hundreds of dedicated artists and technicians who have given so generously of their energy and talent to make House the show it has been — and perhaps will continue to be for some time, on one cable network or another. The makers of “House” would also like to thank Fox Broadcasting and Universal Television for supporting the show with patience, imagination and large quantities of good taste. The Studio-As-Evil-Adversary is one of the many cliches that “House” has managed to avoid, and for that the cast and crew are deeply grateful. Lastly, the audience: some have come and some have gone, obviously. This is to be expected in the life of any show. But over the course of the last eight years, the producers of House have felt immensely honored to be the subject of such close attention by an intelligent, discriminating, humane and thoughtful — not to mention numerous — audience. Even the show’s detractors have been flattering in their way. Making the show has felt like a lively and passionate discussion about as many different subjects as could possibly be raised in 177 hours. The devotion and generosity of our viewers has been marvelous to behold. So, finally, everyone at House will bid farewell to the audience and to each other with more than a few tears, but also with a deep feeling of gratitude for the grand adventure they have been privileged to enjoy for the last eight years. If the show lives on somewhere, with somebody, as a fond memory, then that is a precious feat, of which we will always be proud. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It had to come sadly. The quality felt like it was slowly begining to taper off.
The quality definitely was falling but still a bit unexpected. Didn't House have tons of viewers?
I enjoy the show, but they should have stopped it a couple of seasons back.
Always liked this show, even though you could probably make a drinking game based on the "twists" that happen in many episodes (Patient feels better 1/4 of the way in, is about to leave, then relapses) The last one I saw he checked into a mental institution. I think I'm pretty far behind.
what WHAT NOOOOO
I wouldn't say that the quality has come down, but it is as good of a time as any to stop it. I figured they were doing this the whole time, Season 8 has been wrapping up a lot of story lines and writing characters out.
It went on for a bit too long, and it seems they kinda ran out of ideas. Good show though.
The quality definitely was falling but still a bit unexpected. Didn't House have tons of viewers?
Why run something into the ground when you can end on a high note.
This latest season was much better than the last 2. Nothing compares to the first 4 though.
This reminds me of scrubs. I've never watched house, but the first bunch of seasons of scrubs were really good but then it started to lack, before reaching the absolute clusterfuck that was season 9 seems people here think that the earlier seasons of house were better
Noooo :(
I don't think the word cancelled should be used in situations like this. It hasn't been cancelled, its ending. All TV shows have to end at some point anyway, better they do it before it reaches that point. You know where its just shit and a disgrace to any former episodes of it.
FUCK noo
that point.
You mean the 'Shark Jump'.
We knew that was coming. Bring on the vicodin and kill him!
I stopped watching at around season 5 I think, I gotta start watching the rest soon.
It isn't being canceled they shows producers and Hugh have decided that it's a good time to stop and that the story has been told. There's a difference, the word canceled makes it sound like Fox's (I think it's Fox I dunno) fault.
Why are American tv shows always so much on quantity over quality? It always ends up dying after a shitload of episodes. But its sad that this had to end
NONOOO I JUST GOT INTO IT A MONTH AGO IT CAN'T END NOW NOOOOOO HOUSE I LOVE HOUSE :smith:
NONOOO I JUST GOT INTO IT A MONTH AGO IT CAN'T END NOW NOOOOOO HOUSE I LOVE HOUSE :smith:
Dude there's 8 seasons of House. If you just got into it..
Why are American tv shows always so much on quantity over quality? It always ends up dying after a shitload of episodes. But its sad that this had to end
It's a good show
I'm glad it's going to end, so that I've got a reason to watch it. I really fucking HATE when something never ends, just like books.
It's a good show
Of course I know its good, but most American tv shows just go downhill.
This makes me sad.
It looks like House is leaving the building.
On the upside this means I have one less show to follow. On the downside this was my favorite show. :c
Oh fuck. It was lupus after all.
I always have a lot of respect for producers that end their shows voluntarily because the story is over or they don't want to run it into the ground
I enjoyed House, never did manage to catch any of the newer seasons though.
