James Holmes, the Colorado madman who killed 12 people and injured 70 others during a shooting spree inside of a packed movie theater, has been sentenced to life in prison. A jury announced their decision Friday after hearing three months of often emotional testimony which included survivors and even Holmes' family who spoke in a bid to save his life. The same jurors, who had the option of sentencing the 28-year-old to death, had rejected his insanity defense last month and convicted him on all counts in the July 20, 2012 massacre. The victims had packed the Aurora theater for a midnight showing of the Batman flick "The Dark Night Rises" when Holmes, wearing a gas mask, body armor and bright red hair, ambushed them with an assault rifle, shotgun and pistol, prosecutors said.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/james-holmes-sentenced-life-prison-theater-attack-article-1.2318522?utm_content=buffer06734&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=NYDailyNewsTw
Good. Death penalty or not at least he's out of the way.
Would've been life either way. Colorado never executes anyone.
Show of hands, who's actually surprised?
Show of hands, who's actually surprised?
I was surprised that the justice system in America didn't kill this man since they'll just about kill anyone else.
Show of hands, who's actually surprised?
Me. I can't believe they let him live.
Me. I can't believe they let him live.
Savage.
Savage.
Not really.
I was surprised that the justice system in America didn't kill this man since they'll just about kill anyone else.
"The justice system in America" kind of varies per state, you know. Some states like Texas have the death penalty, others don't.
I was surprised that the justice system in America didn't kill this man since they'll just about kill anyone else.
Plenty of places in the U.S. don't have the death sentence anymore bub
Hope he gets raped a lot. (User was banned for this post ("Snipe" - Craptasket))
Hope he gets raped a lot.
Probably will be in solitary for a long ass time.
Hope he gets raped a lot.
This might be a joke but a lot of people actually hold this sicko view and see rape as an appropriate part of criminal punishment. Even if this post is a joke it's still a pretty weird one to make.
The only part I do not understand is why they have the whole emotional end of it placed in with the jury. The law should only be based around facts, evidence and logic. People telling the jury how people dying changed their life and anyone who survived should not be put in front of a jury. Only the facts and what they said should be. Without any of the emotional part that will coming out in front of said people giving testimonies as that will happen and can sway how people see it. My law teacher told me about one case he knew of where someone got away with not guilty just because they thought the well dressed man who was polite and nice couldn't of done it. What I'm saying is that the law should be based around only logic, facts, and evidence and anything that could sway that should not be seen by people making the decision unless it is a judge. Who do have issues as well but they should be trained to look over any personal standings they have and anything that may be considered a way to sway the judgement. In the end none of this should of happened anyways however that is the case with a lack of mental health care as this can be avoided. Which no one seems to get because shootings keep happening and then the nutty people get 15 minutes of fame anyways. The news shouldn't even go into detail of shootings outside of that it happened. Which is what happened, where it happened, when it happened, and if they know why it happened. The who should be kept out of the news and it shouldn't be reported on more than just letting the people know it happened. After that it should go onto other news with updates maybe once every week to two weeks. Rather than how it is now with it going on with week long things as it just reinforces to those unstable that the world will know them.
I was surprised that the justice system in America didn't kill this man since they'll just about kill anyone else.
And what evidence do you have of this? From what I've seen they don't do it enough for people who really actually do not deserve to know the essence of life, since they can fuck someone Else's over and leave them mentally fucked forever... Those people should get the lynch but they don't. [editline]8th August 2015[/editline]
Hope he gets raped a lot.

And what evidence do you have of this?
In America, the executioners wear a badge. Seriously though, the death penalty really shouldn't be a thing is any of the states.
The Facebook comments are sickening, everyone saying he should get death..just wow. If I was a friend or family member of one of the people who lost their life, I wouldn't feel any better if he died or not. It won't bring them back. At least he won't be able to to hurt anyone else again.
Hope he gets raped a lot.

Not really.
No, he's right. Savages.

To me it's justice enough to know that he will have a very long time to dwell on it.

They do nothing for society at all. Zilch. I'm all for reforming people, addicts, one time muderers, etc etc.. but he killed 12 people..including a little girl. There is no reform to that. Especially life without parole. I'm sorry but if someone did that to my little girl, I would vote capital punishment.
guilt burdened life of solitude
Some people don't have the mental capacity to feel guilt.
I was surprised that the justice system in America didn't kill this man since they'll just about kill anyone else.
Each state has different jurisprudence. Some states have Death Penalty some don't

No chance of reform, no chance he'll ever contribute anything of value. Even if he were treated and discharged as a sane man, what option would a sane mind have but suicide? I don't see any reason (other than the oft-cited cost) why we should keep him around. A total waste. No sympathy for him.
Show of hands, who's actually surprised?
Plenty of people I know who were in the theater, or who had family/friends who were.
Plenty of people I know who were in the theater, or who had family/friends who were.
I have an office that is 1/4 mile from there and tons of people went to that theater also.
Hope he gets raped a lot.
wtf [editline]7th August 2015[/editline]
.45 slug to the head will cost about 20 cents. What will society lose? Nothing? Yup.
wtf
wtf
He murdered 12 people. Why am I paying for him to do nothing for society?
why would you ever wish death or rape upon someone else
why would you ever wish death or rape upon someone else
He wished death on tons of people.
