• ISIS claims it could buy its first nuclear weapon from Pakistan within a year
Isis has used the latest issue of its propaganda magazine Dabiq to suggest the group is expanding so rapidly it could buy its first nuclear weapon within a year. The hyperbolic article, which the group attributes to the British hostage John Cantlie, claims Isis has transcended its roots as “the most explosive Islamic ‘group’ in the modern world” to evolve into “the most explosive Islamic movement the modern world has ever seen” in less than twelve months. Photojournalist Cantlie is regularly used in the terror group’s propaganda and has appeared in a number of videos, including a YouTube series called "Lend Me Your Ears". He has been held a hostage by Isis for more than two years. The piece, entitled "The Perfect Storm", describes militant Islamist groups such as Boko Haram, which recently pledged allegiance to Isis, uniting across the Middle East, Africa and Asia to create one global movement. The article claims this alignment of groups has happened at the sane time as Isis militants have seized “tanks, rocket launchers, missile systems, anti-aircraft systems,” from the US and Iran before turning to the subject of more extreme weapons the group is not in possession of - such as nuclear weapons. “Let me throw a hypothetical operation onto the table,” the article continues. “The Islamic State has billions of dollars in the bank, so they call on their wilāyah in Pakistan to purchase a nuclear device through weapons dealers with links to corrupt officials in the region." It admits that such a scenario is “far-fetched” but warns: “It’s the sum of all fears for Western intelligence agencies and it’s infinitely more possible today than it was just one year ago. "And if not a nuke, what about a few thousand tons of ammonium nitrate explosive? That’s easy enough to make." An attack launched by Isis against America would ridicule "the attacks of the past".
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/isis-claims-it-could-buy-its-first-nuclear-weapon-from-pakistan-within-12-months-10270525.html
Hopefully ISIS doesn't last a year
Yeah, such an attack would be pretty ridiculous indeed.
These morons have no idea of the capabilities of the power they would like to play with i think. Or what they might force the other nations to do. The past has proven that extreme religious zeal is no defense against atomic fire.
And they are just crazy enough to use it too.
To be honest, I think things would end really badly for Pakistan if there were any hint their nuclear weapons aren't as securely stored as they should be. India would be rather worried, for starters.
Wouldn't that make the US and other nations perceive them as a much bigger threat and concentrating more on annihilating them? Nuclear weaponry are an incredibly big deal politically.
As scary as it sounds, it's probably just empty threats and propaganda.
Ya considering how much of an ally Pakistan is with the US, I mean we have airbases there, pretty much no country except perhaps north Korea, is stupid enough today to sell a nuclear bomb [editline]23rd May 2015[/editline] On the other hand if they want to go to northern Syria and use it as a car bomb, I'd personally hope they nuke themselves, maybe the middle east does need a reminder in how stupid and useless nukes are at regional conflicts, maybe a city sized crater is enough to convince the shia and Sunni proxies that escalation will only go down one route. Idk but a nuclear armed Isis is very impossible
Ya considering how much of an ally Pakistan is with the US, I mean we have airbases there, pretty much no country except perhaps north Korea, is stupid enough today to sell a nuclear bomb
Even the Norks would have a tough time doing that, since the instant China were to find out, China would pull all support and sever ties with them.
Even the Norks would have a tough time doing that, since the instant China were to find out, China would pull all support and sever ties with them.
Chinas practically ready to invade, I mean send policing units in... I mean its probably the one area in Asia China could militarily dickwave and not face international problems
even if they managed to get ahold of nuclear weapons, imagine the immediate response that would follow from the US and allied forces. any justification for diplomacy or patience would immediately be nullified and we would throw everything we have at them, which they could simply never survive.
Selling a nuke to ISIS would be probably the number 1 way of getting a taste of little bit of good ol' western boots-on-the-ground intervention. Nobody is insane enough to do that. [editline]23rd May 2015[/editline] I mean, it's true ISIS might be insane enough to try to get and use a nuke, which is the danger here, but there's no nuke-owning country that would be insane enough to give one to them.
The scary thing is that ISIS certainly has the capital and assets to make such a purchase.. so money isn't a problem, it's finding a seller.
And it's not like this is the first time Pakistan's been playing Home Depot for nukes anyway. Saudi Arabia has made arrangements to purchase one from Pakistan should things with Iran get dicey. Naturally, both sides deny it vehemently, but considering the cashflow that moves from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, I wouldn't be surprised.

However with a country like NK, the main issue is trying to transport it.
There's always black market, no country would ever sell a nuke to a terrorist group but If ISIS has enough money there's no way to be sure what they can get theirs hands on. Hopefully they never find one.
North Korea? However with a country like NK, the main issue is trying to transport it.
It's heavily disputed if what North Korea has is a real nuke or just a really gross dirty bomb, but I guess that's besides the point. Still, I kinda doubt that the country where the only allowed "deity" past the strictly mandated secularism is the glorious leader would be willing to sell their bleeding edge pride weaponry to rabid religious fundamentalists. Like, sure, enemy of my enemy is my friend, but honestly I feel like the ideological differences between these enemies are so huge that it's really doubtful they could ever be allies.
Pakistan really shouldn't have nukes.
Pakistan really shouldn't have nukes.
We worry about North Korea, but Pakistan has proven a million times more worrying
Given how long nukes have existed, I am seriously surprised we haven't seen them slip out onto the black market and into terrorist orgs hands yet. Though, i'd be more worried about dirty bombs, and even then, it's more the scare factor, than any actual effeciency thats scary.
What possible incentive would Pakistan have to give an extremely destructive weapon to something as dangerous and unpredictable as a terrorist organization?
Ya considering how much of an ally Pakistan is with the US, I mean we have airbases there
Since when?
Hey, err Pakistan, can you do us a solid and not sell ISIS any nuclear weapons? Thanks.
The only way that ISIS is ever getting their hands on a nuke is if they break into a Pakistani nuclear silo and steal it. Pakistan's government is not dumb enough to sell a nuke, much less to ISIS.

Pakistan's government is not dumb enough to sell a nuke, much less to ISIS.
That's the problem - Pakistan's entire shtick up until now has been an extortion styled "Well, you know, what would happen if one of our nukes got captured by terrorists?" and cue wallets of major western countries being opened to prevent that from happening. Lest we forget, they've had major terrorist attacks on their airport and a military port in the past decade. There's nothing to stop them from doing the same to a nuclear silo.
The second America found out ISIS had nuclear capabilities, Raqqa and every other ISIS stronghold would be bombed into ash as fine as silk, and the average geographical height of Syria and Iraq would raise about eight to nine feet because the two countries would be blanketed with Abrams and other armored vehicles. However, I doubt they'll ever be able to purchase anything from Pakistan, and if the black market were as saturated with nuclear weaponry as some people and organizations claim, we probably would have already seen an attack somewhere.

As in, regular vans. Not trucks. Vans.
All threats need to be taken equally seriously ... unless it involves nukes. Or just international politics in general.
All threats need to be taken equally seriously ... unless it involves nukes
Then they can be brushed off as silly dickwaving because no one with nukes is that stupid, and no one that stupid has nukes.
I really hope they're bluffing, because if they are serious and end up acquiring such a weapon and firing it at the US, then then all of north america will be fucked
